Sienna LE 3.3L

According to the service manager, a rotted boot caused the leakage, which in turn caused leakage and failure. Moreover, service manager said even early detection of boot leakage would still have necessitated replacement of entire unit, not just boot. At $960 to repair at only 66300 miles, this seems either to be a design flaw or faulty boot material.

Two years after we purchased the Sienna (NEW) the steering began to "thunk" with turning. We took it in to the Toyota Service Center, and we were reassured that this did not constitute a problem (we have documentation). We then drove the car for 2 years with this problem until in October 2009, the steering fluid leaked out overnight. The entire steering shaft had to be replaced ($1300 total bill). After the repair, the noise was resolved. Now, 5 months later, the "thunk" noise has returned. I am fairly certain that we are going down the same road again. I should also add that while we have owned the Sienna, the rear AC/Heat failed to work (this occurred within one month of purchase). Also, we complained for two years about a loud squeaking and clunking noise that occurred when closing the front driver's door. Toyota Service Center repeatedly oiled the door until finally a recall came out that fixed the problem. We will buy Honda in the future-I should have never changed in the first place!

Sienna XLE LTD 3.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission

We took the van to the dealership for an oil change. We mentioned the clicking in the steering and to have them check it out. So they said there's not really much they can do, it appears to be internal in the steering column, a factory issue. But the van is now out of warranty due to mileage. OK.. if it's a factory defect.....why don't they want to take care of it? This will be the last Toyota I purchase for awhile I can tell you that. The van is a top of the line model and has numerous small issues that the deal just can't seem to get right. This one just adds to the list.... which is weird... I've been a STAUNCH Toyota guy for almost 20 years. I wonder how many other Toyota Sienna drivers have this issue, but just don't say anything about it! Too bad Toyota...you may have lost one of your biggest fans.
