Pressurized Rear Bank VVT-I Oil Line with rubber insert developed a pin hole leak. Engine lost all of its oil while driving. Dealer is not sure whether it is covered by extended warranty for similar rubber oil line problems.

oil loss

Father owns a 2008 Toyota Sienna. While driving on the Highway, smoke began to emit from under the hood, pulled over to check on it popped the hood to see oil spewed all over the exhaust manifold and sprayed all over the underside of van. Filled with more oil which also leaked out. The vehicle was towed to a Toyota dealership next day and was in the process of being evaluated, service advisor concluded that OIL COOLER PIPE had burst...I questioned how is that supposed to burst? advisor replied back with lame answers " it's a maintenance item" was one of them. Had to foot the bill.... part no 15767-31020 is about $200cdn, total came up to about $475cdn The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. There is a recall on the vvt-i oil line but not on this oil cooler pipe with the same weak rubber that WILL develop a pin size hole that will expand and lead to oil loss and engine starved of oil. The mileage was ~ 45,000km

(pic shows what the ends of the oil cooler line look like with the rubber hoses in between...what it looked like when returned by dealer)
