Venza V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

Started out as a vibration I could feel when I held the brake in while sitting in traffic. I was told I was not holding the brake in long enough (wtf?) The mechanic actually told me to "break it better it next time." Fast forward 2 weeks. Now, when sitting in traffic the engine runs extremely rough and after about 20 seconds a loud (thud, thunk, pop, bang) sound. The engine gets quite again and it starts building up to the noise again. Odd thing, it only happens once the engine is warm.

Any ideas? The car is a 2009, V4, automatic, 60,000 miles.

Venza Touring 3.5L V6 D-Vvti

  • Automatic transmission
  • 53,000 miles

Engine makes a loud, hollow sounding engine knock. It is likely the D-VVTI gear not getting enough oil (recently learned that it is common with the Toyota 3.5L), and dealer refuses to acknowledge the issue, despite being under warranty. It has been complained about at least 4 times, and worked on once with no results. They blamed it on fuel injectors, but this thing is as loud as a diesel. It is my mothers car, and she drives on the highway for work. The last thing I want is the engine crapping out at 90 KM/H and causing an accident. It is a loud, annoying noise and it's definitely not something expected out of a Toyota. This is one of many issues with the Venza.

Venza LX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 27,000 miles

l bought my 2009 Toyota Venza as a used car. Test driving I did not observe any engine knock. The engine knock appeared about a week or two later. The Venza is my first purchase of a Toyota car. I am so disappointed. I have read other complaints at CarComplaints.com about the engine knock. Evidently, there is a problem with an engine knock for the 2009 Venza. I plan to see if I can get a repair shop to remedy this annoyance. It's a shame that a car promoted as a luxury car not a diesel sounds like a diesel truck. I will soon be looking to trade in this car but not for another Toyota product.
