Subaru Recalls 2018 Crosstreks Over Floor Mats That Move
Subaru recalls 2,300 Crosstreks after floor mats move and interfere

— A 2018 Subaru Crosstrek recall has been issued to fix floor mats that can move out of position and interfere with the gas or brake pedals.

The automaker likely has visions of Toyota's floor mat problems and will want to get the 2,300 recalled Crosstreks repaired as soon as possible.

Subaru says the wrong floor mat retention brackets were installed on the vehicles, allowing the mats to trap or interfere with pedal functions. A floor mat stuck under a brake pedal can prevent the pedal from working to stop the Crosstrek, and a mat that entraps the accelerator pedal can cause unintended acceleration.

Subaru learned of the problem in October 2017 when a report came in from the field regarding a driver's side floor mat that moved out of position. Subaru opened an internal investigation to determine the root cause of the floor mats moving around and found the bracket problems.

The automaker says Crosstreks built after October 18 are equipped with the correct floor mat retention brackets.

Owners of 2018 Subaru Crosstreks will soon hear from the automaker with instructions to get the vehicles to dealers to have the floor mat retention brackets inspected and possibly replaced.

Crosstrek owners with questions should call the automaker at 856-488-8500 and ask about recall number WTR-77.
