Escape EX 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150,000 miles

Engine shuts off while driving after 5 minutes, give or take. 4 times now. Have to pull side of road or middle of intersection. Haven't been in accident YET; but it's just a matter of time. Took to my mechanic, and he said battery connections were loose. Tightened connections, and ran computer scan. Said everything was good. The next day the car did the same thing.

I'm reading that Ford is aware of problem but has no answer other than to say they can't address problem if computer says No Problem Found. How many complaints/accidents/deaths will it take before Ford finds a solution???

Local dealership won't follow Ford directive, charged me 125.00 for a diagnostic when Ford Consumer Satisfaction Program 13N03 says customer should not be charged. Then found out they did not do the diagnostic test listed in the directive. This will definitely be the last Ford product I ever own. Has had multiple recalls for steering, fuel system, and now this. My car will just shut down with no warning and they took it on a 10 minute drive and since it didn't do it, they held my car for ransom and I am stuck driving what is turning out to be a death trap.

Our 2010 Escape has had this problem since around 45,000 miles that we know of. We bought the car with 40,000 miles on it. Lost power and the wrench light comes on. When you put in park, shut it off for a few seconds and then it will start up and the wrench light goes out, it clears the code so they can't check it. This had happened 3 different times with my wife previously, the 3rd time when she pulled onto the highway. Thank God no traffic was coming. Afterwards she took it straight to the Ford dealership. The service manager knew about the issues with these cars. They changed the throttle body. It started doing the same thing again after about 10,000 of the Ford dealer replacing the throttle body. This time I was with her and saw what it was doing. It happened 3 times within 15 minutes. The 2nd time it stalled and stopped in the inside lane of a 4 lane highay with traffic coming.

Escape shuts off when driving it, can be on freeway and it loses all power and you have to coast to the side, turn off car and restart it and then it runs. What can the problem be?

Buying Ford Escape was the worst decision I have ever made and think that the Vic Bailey Ford Service Department in Spartanburg SC could fix it was a Bigger mistake.

The car started cutting off while I was driving from work and it cut off when I was driving and while I was at a stop light. The car came to a sudden stop in the middle of an intersection (completely losing all power), a large SUV had to swirl to prevent from hitting me at a high speed. I immediately took the car to the Vic Bailey Ford Dealer and Service Shop (where I purchased the car). They kept my car for 5 days on and off. Charging me $98.00 for a diagnostic test and $150.00 for a new battery and installed, the car continued to cut off on me and them. Finally they called me and told me that they couldn't figure out what was wrong with the car, but they knew something was wrong with it. Told me to wait until problem got worst until they could figure it out.

They sent me home with a car that cuts off in traffic, they don't care that I am a educator and that I have son who rides in that car me to school and work. They don't care that by driving that car my life and my son's life was put in danger. All they saw was a black single mother that they thought they could just tell anything to. I have spoken with the Service Manager at the Dealership (no help), the Ford Service rep (no help), the customer service rep manager (no help). I think that it is awful, that in 2015 an America woman is treated with such disrespect and pushed to the side when dealing with car issues. Ford made this cars, they sell these cars, so they should make cars that are reliable and dependable for the people who buy them.

At Christmas break me and my child had to sit at home and miss several holiday as well as church activities because of this issue. Who is suppose to be our voice when the big Vic Bailey Ford Dealer, Vic Bailey Repair Shop, Ford Motor Company, and Ford Service do nothing???

Escape V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,000 miles

Let me start from the beginning, 3 years ago is when it first started. I was driving and made a left turn and my car ALL OF A SUDDEN it wouldn't accelerate. My engine was running but when I press on the gas it didn't connect so I turn off my car and restarted it and the ghost left. This happened 3 more times and I took it to the dealer and they gave me the same excuse everyone else is saying. If we can't get a code it's nothing we can do.

Also when I am at a red light with my foot on the brakes my car would just accelerate forward fast and I would have to punch the brakes even harder to keep from hitting the car in front of me. I took into the dealer for this problem (and again nothing). Next, at home in my driveway, get out my car on my way into the house & notice my car is still running; I look down and my key was in my hand. It took me 10 tries to get my car off. I actually had to trick my car and drive it. To solve this problem the dealer had me to replace my battery.

Now I am in 2014 and the problem has got very, very, bad; my car will not let me get from point A to B without turning off. Constantly taking it to the dealer, they kept it for a week and outcome answer is the CODE, they need a CODE, and send me on my way. Lastly, the day I got it out of the shop it shut down on me about 20x so the next morning I took my car to the closest FORD dealership (RUSS MILNE) and the assistant manger Ray, refused to take my car. I called FORD headquarter to ask why and the lovely rep I spoke to, try to talk to him, and ask him why he is refusing to service my vehicle . First he was rude and told me he has to call the main phone line (which wasn't a problem but when he called the main line, he refused, in front of my face, to take his call, he waited 15 minutes for him to pick up the phone.

So she got my car & I and a tow truck, which took 2 1/2 to come get me, and shipped us to another FORD dealership. And Ray, just looked outside at me sitting in my car for 2 1/2 hours. Tears, yes, I got to that dealer ship at 8:20am in the morning and didn't leave until 1:47 only to travel to another Ford dealership and have them take me home which I got home at 4:00. I need my car fix, this problem is going to kill someone, it almost did my children & I

Engine turns off while driving. I had it brought to get it diagnosed, but they could not find what would cause it. It has been happening off and on for one year. I tracked the weather, time of year, temperatures,..., but I can not find a common denominator. The car will drive fine and all a sudden the lights will flash and the car will turn off. This has been dangerous and annoying, especially in heavy traffic or on narrow back-roads with no place to get out off the road. Please let me know if this is a common issue and what did it take to fix it.

Escape LX V6

Life threatening! Driving on 95 in far left lane at max speed allowed and car just cuts off and surges, cars blowing swerving in next lane to keep from rear ending me. Have to put car in park and cut off and restart twice, this has been occurring on a regular. Have taken the Escape to my mechanic twice, no codes appear! Sometime the throttle light comes on or the engine light.

Update from Aug 9, 2013: I had to take to mechanic again, tested code, came back throttle keeps sticking, had to use premium gas, remedied for a week, back to hestiation and stalling again, Ford won't allow mechanics to order part, Ford wants to charge 500-600 dollars to replace, unbelievable

Escape LX 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission

I finally gave up my second Chevy suburban for a small ford escape. I've adjusted to the smaller size, but this car has lost ALL power multiple times in the middle of 6 and 8 lane traffic. I've been almost rear-ended, honked at, and scared to death I was going to die on the road. I thought maybe I was getting water in the gas tank. My mechanic for 10 years has been able to find nothing wrong with the car. After reading this website, maybe it's the throttle body assembly. WHY HASN'T FORD RECALLED THIS VEHICLE? Is it going to take someone's death before they fix the issue? I feel like calling my lawyer. I will never buy another ford again. I have bought Chevy's for over 30 years with very little problems. Please keep me posted on a recall. Thanks!

I've experienced this problem with my 2010 Ford Escape just shutting down in the middle of traffic. My mechanic and the Ford Dealership could not figure out why it occurs. This has been occurring off and on for about a year. So I'm definitely riding on a prayer until I can find another vehicle. It will definitely not be a Ford product..

I can't believe that Ford has not found a solution to this problem because the mechanic told me that several other people have similar complaints. Imagine how scared I am driving down I95 and suddenly finding that I went from 65 mph to 25 mph. I could be killed. Luckily for me there was no one behind me both times this happened.
