For the last couple of weeks while at stop lights or when the car was just idling I notice the car would shake/sputter/hesitate, like it was not getting enough fuel to the engine to idle, every once in a while but it did not stall out completely it would recover. Then while driving home on June 23, 2013 at 40mph I took my foot off of the gas pedal for a second to begin to slow down as I was approaching a red light, however, the light changed before I got to the intersection and then the car made a shutter/thud not a loud sound but you knew something has just happened, I thought maybe my transmission had just gone out because when I was pressed on the gas pedal it did not respond. I pushed the pedal all the way to the floor but nothing happened. I could not tell if the car really stalled out it seemed more like the gas pedal was just not responding. I lost speed rapidly and coasted into a parking lot. The first time I restarted the car the gas pedal still did not work but the car did go into gear so I thought it must not be the transmission. The second time I restarted the car I gave the gas pedal a couple of pumps before putting into gear to make sure it was responding that worked and I made it home. The car did hesitate and sputter when I was sitting still at the lights so I would put it in park and rev the engine until the light changed. I took the car to a Ford dealership the next day and they informed me that the throttle body needs to be replaced and of course that is an out of pocket expense as my warranty is expired. How many of these complaint have to be filed before Ford has to admit this is there fault for putting faulty throttle bodies in these cars and issues a recall ?

Driving 60mph on highway when Ford Escape bucked, slowed, did not accelerate when gas was applied. Pulled to side of road where engine sputtered and died. Restarted truck, drove another 10 miles when same occurred. This has occurred numerous times over the past two years. I assumed I had bought gas with water in it "bad gas". several times I have used a product to remove water from the gas, this only works sometimes. I have an appointment with Ford on July 5th, I believe its another problem with the ecoboost engine in my SUV. Ford should recall this engine before a fatality occurs, I have visions of someone plowing into the back of my vehicle while my engine stalls unexpectedly.

Escape

  • 50,000 miles
For a couple weeks previous to the final incident, while coming to a stop, the car would stutter then turn off...one time while driving 80mph on the highway. The final time I was pulling out of a gas station and the car started stuttering, then shut off in the middle of the intersection with just enough power to get to a turn-off. The check engine light came on and the yellow wrench. The car would not start for approximately 45 min. I was able to make it around the corner from the Ford dealership and pushed it the remaining way. Ford is saying it is a throttle body issue and the part is on an emergency nationwide backorder which may take 3 weeks to 6 months to get the part...and it's not covered under warranty because it is considered 'normal wear and tear, ' according to Ford. I am about to make my fourth, yes, fourth payment on the Escape.

Driving along highway at 55 mph. Suddenly, could no longer accelerate, despite engine still running at rough idle. Had to drift to side of road. Had no throttle response. To continue, we had to shut down engine. We restarted the engine, and proceeded down the highway. The symptom repeated itself several times while driving to the car dealer. We took it there because we feared for our safety. Our vehicle has been on a waiting list for a replacement part for over a week. This malfunction should be treated as an urgent situation, and a recall should be mandatory. Someone is going to get seriously injured.

  • 42,000 miles
On multiple occasions my 2010 Ford Escape stalled while driving. Vehicle was unresponsive when pressing on the gas pedal and required a restart in order to temporarily correct the issue. In all instances, I was in the middle of traffic and struggled to make my way to the shoulder to avoid an accident or injury to myself and others. Upon further investigation from local Ford dealer, I was informed that the throttle body was defective and causing the vehicle to stall. Dealer stated that the throttle body was only covered under warranty through 36K miles.

While driving at highway speeds the engine revs up and losses power to the transmission as if it was out of gear. It also has happened and standing, I need to shut off the motor and reset it as to speak. The Ford dealer has said that it is a throttle body issue, but I am scared to drive it down the highway for fear that I may be rear ended. I have found that there is a current investigation under way for throttle body failures and there is a current national back order on them.

Escape 6-cyl

While at speed or slower driving the engine suddenly looses all power. Normally it will continue to run (idle), but will not accelerate at all, leaving driver and occupants only able to coast to a place of safety if car is moving. In a crossing traffic situation, this could be deadly. My spouse and I have had several incidents like this and the dealer has identified the problem as a faulty throttle body. However, there has been a national back order on these, as evidently lots of these cars have this problem. Parts are not available for 2 to 4 weeks or longer and the vehicle is absolutely unsafe to drive in this condition. Ford customer service (detroit) says the part in question is supplied by a vendor and they are unable to keep up with demand, but Ford offers no assistance in temporary replacement vehicle or with the expense of replacing the part (my vehicle is out of warranty by 45 days even though by miles would still be in warranty). Someone should take action to get this resolved before there are serious injuries/deaths related directly to this problem.

Driving normal hwy speeds, throttle shuts down. Wrench indicator lights. Have to try to get off of hwy on to shoulder. When stopped, engine still runs but very rough and the throttle does nothing. After turning the engine off the problem resets and runs fine for approx 20 miles or more. Then the same thing happens again. The problem then progressively gets worse. Have read that this is a huge issue and needs T be addressed before someone gets injured or killed.

Escape 6-cyl

I was driving on the interstate at about 70 mph. Suddenly, without notice the car began to slow down and depressing accelerated did nothing. I was able to coast to the shoulder where the car continued to idle roughly with the wrench indicator light on. I turned the ignition off and waited a few seconds. I started the car and engine ran somewhat normally. Same issue occurred on return trip a few hours later. Took to Ford dealer who diagnosed as needed the throttle body replaced. Said the part was on back order and would probably take 4 weeks to get it. This issue could result in very serious injury if it occurs in heavy traffic conditions.

My car stalled out as I was driving down the street. I had to turn off my car and restart it. It was able to restart but about 5 minutes later it did the same thing. At one point I was in the middle of an intersection. When I took it in to the dealership they told me this was happening to many other Ford Escapes as well as Ford Fusion. At this point they told me the part was back ordered for 2-3 weeks. They told me most people were just able to drive the car with the random stalling out until the parts came in.

Numerous times since we bought our Ford Escape on June 1st, 2010, we have had the car surge when starting off and having to apply the brakes quickly. This has happened since we first got the vehicle. I have also filed a report (ODI # 10520754) for the engine going to idle at highway speeds because of the throttle body needing replacing. From a dead stop, when we want to just move up a little because the car in front of us has, we have pushed the accelerator and then brake and the car surges forward like I mashed the gas harder. Several times, this has caused us to hit the vehicle in front of us but rarely causing damage. The surging has happened probably 150 times over the 3 years we have owned the vehicle. Both my wife and I have bumped into the car in front of us about 10 times only causing minimal damage and never filed on any insurance. The Ford dealer in memphis (dobbs Ford wolfchase) told me that this was a characteristic of a front wheel drive vehicle. This was our first fwd vehicle we have owned since 1994. Our vehicle now has about 60600 miles.

While driving down I-40 in eastern Arkansas in heavy traffic, the engine went to idle speed. Pressing the accelerator did nothing. I coasted to the shoulder of the road and the car was idling but would not drive. I turned off the car and it restarted and ran with no problems the rest of the way. On June 18th, 2013, the car did the same thing in heavy traffic in little rock on I-30 in the left lane. I coasted to an exit and took it. The car again restarted, but this time within 30 seconds it went to idle again and the check engine light came on. The odometer read 60,480 at this time. On June 19th, 2013, I took the car to landers Ford in benton Arkansas where they diagnosed the problem as needing the throttle body replaced. The part will take approximately 3 weeks to come in. As is, I cannot drive the car out of town for fear of it breaking down completely. This is our only vehicle and we both have elderly parents who we need to go see about. We will have to rent a car to do this now.

Vehicle (2010 Ford Escape) traveling at appx. 20mph on freeway when it started bucking, lost some but not all power. Pulled vehicle to side of freeway, shut off engine. Restarted 30 seconds later. Restart was difficult but successful. Successfully drove vehicle to dealer for repair. Dealer claims this is electronic throttle body issue. Cannot repair until part arrives in approximately one week. Very similar behavior from car in two separate incidents last week - both happened immediately upon start up in my driveway. I shut engine off each time and restarted. Restart was difficult but not successful. Similar incident 9 months ago (Sept. 2012). Vehicle traveling at appx. 65mph on freeway when it noticeably jumped, immediately lost most but not all power. Towed to dealership. Dealer could not repeat nor verify concern in 4 days / 150 miles of testing. Research has shown that NHTSA is investigating similar issues on this and other model year Ford Escapes. My experience sounds very similar to complaints from other drivers.

Driving on interstate at approximately 60 mph, engine suddenly lost power. I looked down and saw the yellow wrench light on. Car continued to coast and began slowing down. Luckily there were no vehicles immediately behind me and I had time to find a location to pull over. Pulled over and engine began to buck and sputter. Turned off ignition. Waited about 15 seconds and started engine. Wrench light was gone. Put car in gear and everything appeared fine. Completed approximately 15 miles and got to destination. This is the second time this has happened in two and a half weeks. First incident was on 5/31/13. After first incident I did some research on the internet and learned about other similar incidents caused by the throttle body. I went to the Ford dealer and ordered a new part. Dealer took the order and denied knowing anything about this issue but ordered the part for me. The part still has not come in. After repeated phone calls I was told the part is on national back order and might still take a few weeks to get in.

The vehicle acts like it is going to cut off, you can't give it any gas. I have to pull over, where I am at, whether it be the side of the road, middle of an intersection, or a center turning lane. I then have to put the vehicle in park, turn it off, wait about 15 seconds and start it back up. Most of the time I have to repeat this process several times before I reach my destination. It is the throttle body which we have tried to order but have been told it is on back order and they (Ford dealership) are not sure when they will get one in. This must be a huge problem in the U.S. because we have been told by Ford dealer that they have already had to replace "a bunch".

We own a 2010 Ford Escape limited, purchased new June 2010. Throttle control went out first time in May 2013. Called dealer, they said just water in gas. Second time approx. 2 weeks later, happened again, took to dealer where it has remained for almost a month now. We work and we need our car. This needs to be addressed, too dangerous to drive, have been told part is back-ordered over 16,000. Consumers need relief from this.

While driving on the interstate in morning rush hour traffic, the vehicle suddenly lost power and throttle control (went into limp mode). I had to move over to the emergency without power and stop the vehicle. After turning the vehicle off for a few minutes, it started and ran ok. Then on 10 June, the same issues occurred again at highway speeds but in little traffic. Again on 14 June it happened 3 times within driving 10 miles again on the interstate at highway speed and in afternoon rush hour traffic. The third time an obd II dtc was issued. Upon arrival home I scanned the code and it was P2112 throttle body stuck closed.
