While driving home from a trip a passing car indicated to me a tire problem. I pulled off the road, called aaa and had my spare put on my Ford Explorer. About a week later I took the tire in to get it fixed. The manager of the Firestone store where I took it called me over after inflating the tire on a stand. The tread had separated from the sidewall of the tire. He called his office who authorized a 50% reduction in replacement tires which I accepted but called Firestone to request 100% replacement cost. To date no reply from Firestone. Concerned that other tires may have this problem. Do not have the dot code but do remember that the tires were made in Canada. While this blowout did not cause injury, death or property damage it is of note that the Explorer spun violently left and right. The tire tread separated and the low speed and wet roads prevented greater damages. The maintained tire pressure was a constant 30 psi or 4 psi above Ford specifications.
