I have a 98 ford explorer xlt..... it has for the four wheel drive Auto...4 high... and 4 low switch. I took it out last night offroad. I did not engage it into 4 wheel drive, however it seems to engage when i was climbing a slippery hi

ll and it made an odd whining noise in the front end somewhere.. But when i engaged it into 4 high it didnt make that noise? Does my explorer go auto four wheel in slippery conditions? If so, is there a way to disengage the auto but still be able to use 4hi and lo when needed? And what could that whining noise be? only whined when tires seems to spin in front, but it wasnt engaged in 4 wheel drive.
