My check engine came on one day. I hooked up a engine scanner and it gave me the code that the number 5 cylinder was misfiring. This wasn't the first time I've had a cylinder mis. So as per the repair I bought a coil pack and spark plug. Well thr plug broke. After flipping out I finally calmed down and found a solution to the problem. I had to order a tool kit made by Lisle specifically made for Ford Triton 3 Valve Engines to remove the broken plug. The kit number is Lisle#65600 and cost around $100.00 at the time. Apparently the bottom of the plug either breaks off or the porcelain seperates from the metal threads leaving the bottom and porcelain still inside the head. This kit solves this problem without a costly repair bill from a shop. And if it happens again u got the kit already. I wouldn't recommend a novice attempting this. It definitely takes someone familiar with tools and working on vehicles to use properly withough incident. If done wrong you do run the risk of a piece of porcelain dropping down into the cylinder. There's no easy fix for that except maybe a flexible cable claw pick up tool and a camera. Anyways if done right it is a simple kit that solves an expensive ford flaw. I couldn't believe when this happened to me that it's such a problem that a company made a kit for it. Notice it wasn't ford that made the kit, it was another company. Ford probably doesn't reconize it as a problem. I hope this helps some people. Good Luck.

OHH- THIS KIT IS FOR ALL FORD 3VALVE ENGINES. IT WORKS ON PICKUPS, EXPEDITIONS, OBVIOUSLY THE EXPLORER. EVERY FORD VEHICLE THAT USES THAT SH*TTY DESIGNED SPARK PLUG AND BREAKS IN THE HEAD.

If u never used this kit before and/or your really not that mechanically inclined and want to see how it works before risking your engine there's a bunch of videos on YouTube showing how to use this kit. Again good luck.

The vehicle starting to run really rough and check engine light came on to which we were told that this is a common thing to happen in these vehicles the the coil pack is bad and needs replaced along with spark plug #7. To which we did replace these, but it has not fixed the problem.

HEY Ford owners! Bad news, when you change your plugs on the V-8 engine you will likely break off the spark plugs in the cylinder head>> and here's more bad news for the Ford owner, this will cost between 400-600 dollars to pull out the broken plugs and replace with new ones..

It seems the metal cylinder head and spark plugs are incompatible, there by fusing the spark plug threads in the cylinder head.. I'm thinking Ford engineers gave this a lot of thought on the expense of the buyer.

Felt like the transmission was slipping. Had this problem before and it was a computer programming issue, fixed 3 times. This time they said a coil went out in the engine. Had to remove the #7 spark plug and replace in order to get to the "coil". They wanted to replace all the spark plugs (cost approx $150 to $200) at dealership (went in for warranty work). Agreed that the spark plugs probably needed to be replaced. Then they advised that it is a common problem for them (Milner Ford in Harrisonville) to have the spark plugs break off in the cylinder. They then further advised that for each broken spark plug they would charge us $96.00 to remove it after they broke it. I said B** S**. Replace the #7 spark plug that must be removed to make the repair and replace the "coil" and call me if you break that one. If you can't remove 1 without breaking it, why would I pay you to continue. 8 X $96.00 = $768.00 I'm not stupid enough to let you try 7 more times at my expense. If you have to remove the spark plug to do the warranty repair, how does that constitute my fault if you break it? Shouldn't that be included in the warranty cost?

We have been predominately a Ford Family for many years; but, this is not endearing me to Ford or the Ford Dealer.
