This is totally not fair to the consumer especially with the price tag on this vehicle. I have been a loyal Ford person and I am now reconsidering. The paint issue and the companies response sure tell me they don't care. Some people aren't going to find this site to post their complaint. Where can a person get included in the lawsuit? I'm furious because my vehicle is going to look like a piece of crap and Ford doesn't give a dang.

This corrosion along the hood and on the wheels has been getting worse since the car has had less than 40,000 kms on it. I have gripped and complained to Ford and my dealer ongoing for several years now. I have had nothing but problems with this car and am not happy with the corrosion issues that had not been dealt with at all. The wheels are awful looking and they are on the car for less than 6 months per year. The winter safety package that came with my car included four steel wheels and snow tires that are on the car in the winter. Therefore the wheels are not only on the car for less than 6 months a year they never see salt or snow. They are stored indoors in a heated shop and the car in kept in a garage year round as well. I have taken good care of this car and this premature corrosion should not be happening on a car that is less than 3 years old when it started.

Just discovered this problem. The paint is bubbling in several spots on the top edge of the hood and more extensively on the underside edge of same. I was always a Chevy Trail Blazer owner (4 in total) but switched to an Explorer when the TB was discontinued. I usually keep a vehicle for 5-6 years and never once had a problem with the paint on a Chevy. Through many searches, I am now aware that this has been an ongoing problem with Ford aluminum parts. Why they have not solved this defect yet is amazing and

unconscionable. If they (Ford) does not make this right, they have lost me as a customer. I have just today, been to the dealer for photos and called Ford to open a case. I suppose now I wait. ARGH!!!

just like everyone else. I paid $40,000 for this vehicle and the hood is rusting very bad. Always keep it in the garage, rarely drive it in salt.

I wouldn't buy another Ford.

4 year old vehicle with paint blistering and bubbling on the hood. Not something that should happen. Out of Factory warranty. Ford not doing the right thing. Not covered. Would be 100% out of pocket. Only one option. Ford Step up of it will be the last one I ever buy...

rust bubbles on hood rust bubbles on hood

My 2012 Ford Explorer is having the rust/paint bubbling issue along the frontend by where the hood latches. This is a known issue with Ford. It has something to do with the hood being aluminum and mounted to a steal body causing corrosion of some sort (forgive me - just a girl). Ford acknowledges the issue, but, with varying degrees of 'fixing' the solution across the nation. In my case I contacted Ford Corporate on social media & they arranged for an inspection at my dealership. They referred to this issue as COB or COP remedy? It is the hood metal that is the issue not the paint.

My estimate is for replacing the entire hood, paint etc - to the tune of $2200.00. If you just get the hood sanded & painted - the corrosion problem will come back again to bother you in a few years. Ford Corporate offered to pay 60% of the repair, leaving me with a little over $800.00 out of pocket to repair a manufacturing defect. My dealer would not kick in any customer service $ as was told they are out of funds for the year? I'm pretty the dealership has more cash than me. I guess this is better than nothing but it still means working more overtime to pay for something that should be covered 100%. Whatevs, Ford, Whatevs.

If your vehicle is under warranty - it should not be a problem. If you are not under your warranty you need to contact Ford Corporate on social media to have them open a case and get an inspection done.

Paint bubbling around edges of hood. Not happy this is a defect not normal wear and tear or due to mileage. I'm 54 years old and have never had a finish problem with one of my vehicles. With today's technologies this should not be happening. This is first time I purchased a Ford. I like my Explorer. It rides well, it meets my needs but this is unacceptable to me. I will not purchase another Ford unless they pay for this repair. If they do I would gladly consider a future Ford purchase. Made in USA. No bailout. Makes a good driving vehicle. Yes I would like to be a loyal customer but not until Ford repairs what I feel is a manufacturing defect.

Many folks ask me how I like my Explorer and I tell them the truth.

Thanks.

Either Ford are using crappy metal or the pre-paint prep isn't correct - I see many blisters appearing right along the edge of the hood.. Dealer won't fix says it's outside of warranty - but come on Ford this a poor work for a $35K vehicle - would expect more..

Update from May 23, 2017: Ford, still not covering this under warranty - seen several other Explorers, same vintage on the sales sloors of small dealers with the tell tale blisters on tailgates and hoods... this is what happens when you mix Aluminium and Steel Panels, unless your paint crew are methodical, the particles of steel will embed in the aluminium and over time will setup electrolysis (Oxidize/Blister).

My Ford Explorer is 3 years old and there are bubbles all over the hood and the paint is just falling off. I took it to my Ford dealer. They told me it is an oxidation problem with the paint. I will have to have them scrape all the paint off the hood, reseal it and then repaint. That will be about $550. The kicker is that it will come back and I will have to repair again. The best solution buy a new hood - really??? On a car that is 3 years old and cost $45,000 new??? It is a problem with the Aluminum hoods that Ford is using and it is happening a lot and they are aware of it. It isn't covered under my extended warranty, only the first 36,000 miles. I am sorry if my car was 10 years old I might accept a rust problem but it is 3! The hoods aren't pre-treated correctly at the time of manufacturing and it causing these issues. I guess we should just let the oxidation eat the car and show people they don't want a ford....

I noticed the front hood of my Explorer was bubbling in December after only having the truck for 3 years (bought brand new). The dealer filed a claim with Ford and it was denied because the bubbles were intact and had not popped. Unbelievable. I'll think twice before recommending Ford to anyone or purchasing another.
