Own Ford Explorer 2013 since February 2015 and notice rust on the edge of hood and back of the car. Not really happy with that, we are loyal customer to a Ford but after find this problem with rust and thin paint coat never will probably own any of Ford car and I will warn people about this problem to look before they purchase Ford. I work with people every day. They have VERY POOR TRIM around windows. I had to replace two times in 8 months. Very sad because I'm a Ford person and don't know what to do after this.

This is the third time I went to Ford with a rust issue. Now I am over warranty and have to appeal a denial to fix the rust on the hood. I appealed and Ford agreed to fix the rust on the hood if I would pickup $100 of the repair. Because I was over warranty I agreed and had the rust taken care of.

I am not happy with all the work I had to go through. When I first came to Ford with the rust issue I was totally under warranty and I feel, because Ford is well aware of the issue, they should have checked out all doors, hood and tailgate for rust issues, but they did not. Instead they held back and only looked at what I was showing them. Obviously Ford does not want to cover the cost of their rust issue. They want it to go unnoticed until the vehicle is out of warranty.

I would think twice about buying a Ford in the future.

rust bubbles on hood

I took my car for an oil change and was told by mechanic to look at hood. My entire hood is covered with rust bubbles. I am disappointed and mad that a vehicle which is only 2 years old is going through this problem. I need answers and I need the hood fixed.

I am more than annoyed with Ford and the ridiculous answers I have received so far. I do not believe a $40,000 car should ever have paint that bubbles. Ford refuses to stand by their product and fix it.

My 2013 Explorer XLT 4WD has paint bubbles on the hood. One area got so bad that the paint finally chipped off. I contacted Ford about the problem. FORD IS NOT INTERESTED IN MY COMPLAINT. As my vehicle has 70,000 miles on it, all Ford has to say is that MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. Paint bubbling on the hood of a vehicle that is less than two years is a FACTORY DEFECT. Ford SHOULD choose to take care of me. INSTEAD, they write me off. My last vehicle was a 1994 Ford Explorer. When it was hauled away, there were no bubbles of any kind on the vehicle. In fact, the paint wasn't even faded.

Dealer acknowledged issue, Ford declined issue. Ford rep was in denial, would not accept issue as valid and kept quoting warranty gobbledygook. Upset with Fords response, as they have no concern for 2 year old vehicle corrosion or customer service. Time for a new brand, these guys lost me with their response. If I'm a dealer, I'd be concerned about this manufacturer.

Not only does my car have rust and peeling paint on the rear lift gate, but the whole hood is bubbling along the edge. I find it very off also that it has a clear protector on the hood and it is bubbling underneath. This car is well cared for and stored in the garage. This is clearly a car that was painted in an unclean facility. If there is any dirt or dust paint will not adhere to a car. I am bringing it to Ford this week to see what they will do. My guess is that they will do nothing and I will be brining my business elsewhere as my 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse has a better paint job and it has over 203,000 miles on it.

Just noticed rust bubbles on the hood of my 2013 Limited Explorer. I'm furious. Garaged kept, never to the beach, 2 1/2 years old and 1K miles out of warranty. We have a 2008 F150 that has been to the beach 1,000 times....NOT an ounce of rust.

After Googling this I was shocked to find so many complaints. Ford clearly has a flaw. I'll never pay $45,000 for another Ford.

I bought my Explorer May 2013 and noticed last year a bubbling along the edge of the hood by the drivers headlight. I took it to a local dealership and the technician was extremely rude saying it should be covered under warranty but I had to wait weeks for authorization from Ford and another couple of weeks for the fix.

He then told me that rental was not covered and I had to pay for weeks worth of rental coverage that would run me more than me monthly payment on a car not even a year old at the time. I had my toddler with me so I said I would come back, never did because I didn't trust him and his bad attitude.

Fast forward a year later and my husband and I took the car back to where we bought it which has great service. When we took it to collision we saw that we had over 10 more bubble spots all over the edge of the hood. The car is frequently washed, and only 2 years old how this is possible is beyond me.

Thankfully the tech told us it will be covered but again no car rental which is unacceptable so we told her to find out what she could, she called Ford and they cover 3 day rental and can push for my car to be done in 3 days, so much better outcome then the first dealership. We are scheduled to drop off the car in a week to start repair, she told my husband that this is common with the 2013 model so why isn't Ford addressing this further?

I am only adding my complaint in hopes that anyone with this issue you push to get your repair covered and rental covered don't let them tell you no! My car has 24,000 miles on it now. I will update as soon as repair is finished.

Purchased used 2013 Ford Explorer on 12/16/2014. Noticed paint bubble problem on hood in March 2015 with 41,000 miles on car. Ford refused to cover because car is now out of warranty. I drove the car about 13,000 miles and it is not yet three years old and they want me to cover the cost to repaint the hood. Have not had a Ford for several years and I guess I will not have another one for several years.

2013 Ford Explorer Limited with rust bubbles on the hood and under the lip of the hood. Not covered by Ford because it is over the 36,000 mile mark but only 2 years old. Just pathetic. Poor customer service. You pay so much money for this model, and this is what you get?????

Noticed corrosion forming on the front edge of the aluminum hood. Ford has denied my corrosion warranty claim as there is no "perforation". You pay $45K for a new car and this is what you get after 2 years? The car is washed weekly, garage and in cherry condition. This should not have occurred and is definitely a manufacturing problem. Very unsatisfied with Ford.

Took Explorer in to have rust spot on lift gate fixed and Body Shop owner noticed the "significant corrosion on the aluminum hood." He stated that it's a common and well-known problem with Ford's aluminum hoods that that I should ask the dealership to pay for the hood to be repainted entirely. I'll keep you posted...

I purchased a "certified" used 2013 Ford Explorer XLT and I have had it for 8 months. I noticed the paint on the edges of the hood starting to bubble. I called Ford Corporate and they opened a case for me, sent me to the nearest dealer to get photos taken of the bubbles. It's taken them 2 weeks to tell me they would only pay for half of the cost to repaint the hood....They said the dealer was doing this as a courtesy and they didn't have to pay anything because it was out of the 36,000 mile warranty. Ford said the paint is only covered for 5 years if the corrosion has gone completely through the metal on the hood. Well...isn't that special!

This is my third Ford, I have been a loyal Ford customer and I'm quite pissed off! I told Ford it doesn't pay to be loyal to the Ford Brand because they are producing a shoddy product and not standing behind their own vehicles. I very tempted to get the issue fixed and put a for sale sign on this piece of crap and switch brands. I am also going to shop out the repair from other body shops that offer a lifetime warranty on their work....I've read that the problem has resurfaced on some of the hoods that were repainted.

Meanwhile, I am going to print a sign and put it in the window of my car so everyday I am stuck driving in rush hour traffic at 5 miles per hour the THOUSANDS of people next to me will read my sign that says FORD EXPLORERS HAVE BAD PAINT JOBS...I RECOMMEND YOU DON'T BUY ONE!!! DO YOUR INTERNET RESEARCH FIRST...

The car is not even 3 years old yet and has 31,XXX miles on it. I'm bringing it in to the dealership to see what they will say about getting it fixed. This is my first new vehicle and to say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I will update this when I find out more.

I have had this car for 2 1/2 years. Bought brand new, and might I add its garage kept. A while back while washing and waxing the car, I noticed something on the front hood. At first thought it was a ding from the highway. Upon further inspection it was appears to be a rust bubble forming above the headlight on the hood. So I checked the rest of the hood, same exact problem on the opposite side. Popped the hood to further inspect, and noticed what appears to be rust, all along the weld seam.

I took it to my dealership and they were very nice, stated the hood would be "REPLACED", they took photos submitted it to fords main office, dealership called me back and stated they weren't going to replace the hood, just "REPAINT" it. Now, I see rust as cancer for a car! I have 3 Fords in my driveway, this one, a 2000 Focus, and 2010 Fusion, and this is the thorn in my side. I appealed the decision with Ford's main office, and was told I would be contacted by a regional manager within 24 HRS....BS!

After me calling Ford, I FINALLY spoke to this regional Manager 3 WEEKS later!, and her statement was that the "Engineering Department" stated this isn't a error in manufacturing, and that the hood is fine and just needs to be repainted. I voiced my displeasure as kindly and politely as I could. I asked her how a common sense person can conclude that a 40 K dollar vehicle, that has 25K thousand miles on it that stays in the garage 95% of the time can develop RUST? She had no answer, other than once the hood is replaced they would compensate me to keep me as a loyal ford customer.

I have contacted my local news, filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau, and the NHTSA. Ford is going to repaint the hood, however they are losing a loyal customer because this has left a sour taste in my mouth and likely going to trade this car in after its fixed, to many problems for a BRAND NEW CAR!

rust bubbles on hood rust bubbles on hood rust bubbles on hood

After just 2 years and spending over $40,000 on a FORD Explorer LTD my hood is corroding underneath the paint. I sold my Mercedes to get a family vehicle with the arrival of my son and have had several issues. Most have been resolved, but this latest one is now starting to concern me about the longevity of this vehicle. I'm starting to question if I can trust this vehicle long enough to pay it off. Ford service has been fairly good, but between the fuel issue and now corrosion on a 2 year old vehicle I'm frustrated to say the least. Software problems with Sync are one thing, but this is the actual structure of the vehicle. UNACCEPTABLE!
