I bought this car last April, I bought it with an extended warranty because the manufacturer warranty had recently run out. I noticed starting in November my back floorboard behind the driver's was getting wet. Water was puddled. My son had been saying every since I bought the car there was a smell. It is a musty smell and it has gotten worse. I have it in the shop being looked at for a second time and it is not covered under my warranty, but I am 100% sure this was a problem with the original owner and that is why they traded it in and I got suckered! I see thread after thread of Ford vehicles with water in the back floor boards. Ford, do the right thing and fix it....

My front and back carpet is soaked underneath. At first I thought it was just the back but today I found out it is the front drivers carpet as well. Had it in the shop for the back and they thought they found the problem but it still gets wet. I was investigating and found the carpet wet in the front drivers side as well. My vehicle is really starting to smell and it is not covered by my extended warranty.

Update: Ford vehicles have in cabin leaks since 2012 and no recalls! We picked up our 2016 Explorer. After seven weeks and the manager of All American Ford accusing me of spilling liquid in the car and telling me there was no mold or odor, the leak was found and repaired. The car was cleaned to remove the mold odor. We paid nearly $1000 with Ford Corporate paying $1250 towards the bill. We immediately drove the vehicle to our local mechanic because the air conditioner doesn't work! End of story...NOPE! While the car was in repair From May 17 to July 3 All American Ford got a recall notice on the rear suspension. They forgot to repair it! I received the letter on 7/5/19. All American manager Patrick, refuses to make the repair! He refuses to pay a private mechanic to make the repair! I called Ford Corporate. I was told the repair parts are in stock. They contacted Irwin Ford of Freehold, NJ. They told me they have to ORDER the parts as they are not in stock! They will call me once the parts are available. You just can't make this up!

Explorer Platinum 3.5L V6 Tt

  • Automatic transmission
  • 71,669 miles

2016 Explorer Platinum. 72k miles. Engine surging on every warm start. Dealer not able to repair. Not sure what it is. Front windshield trim almost blew off, had to stop and pull it off then glue it back on when I got back home. Side lower trim on drivers door was falling off, plastic connectors broke. Infotainment system was extremely laggy and the GPS didn’t work at times. Even after dealer update it still didn’t work properly. Rear roof seal around back door hinges was cracking causing water to leak inside. Hood is aluminum and the paint will bubble on pretty much all Explorers and come off. Transfer case is a sealed unit not allowing for any servicing or fluid changes. Transmission did not shift smoothly and would probably need to be rebuilt, dealer checked software and said it was up to date.

I bought this car used and only kept it for a few months before trading it back in for a VW Atlas. Much better built vehicle and super roomy.

I’m very disappointed in the lack of quality from the Explorer and am ashamed that Ford would make a car with this many known issues and not covet under a recall. I’m so happy to be done with this car.
