CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

After coming to a stop at a red light, we tried to accelerate, when the wrench light came on and the car lost power, but did not shut off. We could not accelerate, rpms dropped and, luckily we coasted to a safe stop. I put it park and turned it off. After a minute or two, started it up again, the wrench light was off. We went a couple of miles and it did it again. We decided it was unsafe so we brought it home.

Vehicle goes into "limp-home" mode suddenly and unexpectedly. Happened on I-95 and was lucky I could pull over without getting killed. Dealer could not find problem although this should have been well-known to them by then. Happened several times since and got worse and now car is immobile and too dangerous to drive. Apparently a problem with fuel injection throttle body which Ford is well aware of and part is back-ordered 7-10 days (they say). NHTSA initiated an investigation of problem in Feb 2013 but Ford has not informed customers of this very dangerous situation nor offered any fix. Seems unconscionable to me. What does NHTSA propose to do about this and why hasn't it done so" this situation is literally without exaggeration a danger to human life and the manufacturer does nothing. What is NHTSA for"

The car began to stall on the freeway, so I had to drive it off the freeway after it had turned off twice. The first time, it went off in the middle of the freeway as I luckily veered to the side and no one was hurt. I took it to be serviced. It turns out there was a faulty throttle control: The throttle actuator was stuck closed (P2111), and also would get stuck open (P2112). This must have happened while I was on the freeway. The auto service center ran the tests and tested my vehicle after replacing that throttle assembly and now my car runs back to normal. Also, my rear parking aid back up tone is out of order. Sometimes it just beeps constantly and there is nothing behind the vehicle. It seems to be working in order, but once in a while it does that.

On several occasions, the vehicle has no throttle response will driving. The car must be safely pulled over to the side of the road, turned off, and then restarted to correct the problem. The wrench light comes on every time this occurs, and the check engine light comes on some of the time. This is very hazardous due to the driving conditions that may be evident at the time the problem occurs. The local Ford garage diagnosed the problem as the need for the electric throttle body replacement, part #ds7Z-9E926-a.

As I was driving on interstate, the vehicle suddenly lost all acceleration power. I was forced to pull off the road for fear of stalling on the highway. After a couple separate similar instances and trips to the auto repair shop, they determined the problem was a faulty throttle body. After replacing the throttle body, the problem has not recurred. I did some online research after the problem was identified and found numerous owners have complained of a similar issue with the 2010 Ford Fusion. The research stated this is very common with this make and model when the vehicle has between 40,000 to 60,000 miles.

While driving car at any speed, will lose all power, go down to 20 mph, pressing gas pedal does nothing, have to get to side of road, car will shake violently till you shut it off. Take at least 4 to 5 times to start again and have power enough to get it going again. Engine light and wrench lites come on, engine light stays on but wrench lite will go off. Had my 3 grandchildren in car going over a set of 3 railroad tracks and car lost power, was able to cruise over last track and get off to side of road, just as I did railroad gates went down due to approaching train. Also have lost power going thru intersections, on interstates, roads that have very few places to pull over. This has been a true nightmare driving this car, I have had many situations that not only have been very dangerous to myself but also my passengers and most important my grandchildren. Took car to dealership back in January, they replaced charcoal cannister which helped for approx. 2 months. Since then problem has occurred at least 3 times every time I drive it, took back to dealership, they say tough luck, not under warranty anymore. Have researched on-line about this situation and looks like I am not the only one. Please help!

While driving on at least 6 occasions, vehicle stopped propulsing and had no throttle. A code appeared indicating a throttle/ transmission problem. I contacted Ford, and they indicated this is a known issue with my make and model, and not covered under warranty. After researching this online there are so many problems, the part has been back-ordered months at a time, more than once. This problem has been noted in the 4 and 6 cylinder engines all trim levels. I was going over a bridge and feared for my life. Their should be a recall. This a major safety issue because the vehicle stops without warning, and a driver could be anywhere. Lemon law? thanks in advance.

Approximately 3 weeks ago I noticed a small bucking type symptom while sitting at an idle at stops lights. Today while pulling out from my street onto the main road my car began bucking very bad and stalled. I was able to get it restarted and continued on to work. It happened twice more at stop lights while trying to cross a major highway! I called my mechanic and took it in immediately. They just called to tell me it was the fuel body and that this is a known issue with these cars and the parts are on back order! considering the severity of this issue and the fact that someone could be seriously injured in a accident because of this issue I would demand that Ford issues a recall for these parts immediately!

While I was driving, my Ford Fusion lost most of it's power. I was told it was due to a broken throttle body (part). It sounds like it will take 3 weeks to get the part. I'm not sure why it is taking so long, especially since most people here are complaining about the same part.

Lost power at highway speed. Pulled onto shoulder and restarted engine. Later checked the code, which was P2111. Stopped driving car: In some situations this loss of power could be a safety issue. Dealer replaced throttle body at a cost of $400.

2010 Ford Fusion: Going down the freeway at 70 and then all of a sudden started losing power, no acceleration and down to 55 at which time I was able to get to the side of the road before it died. I let it sit a couple of minutes and tried to start it - started fine. The Ford garage put it on the diagnostic machine but I was told because the check engine light did not come on there was no memory to show what may have happened. It ran fine for about two weeks and then the same thing happened. Took it back to Ford - but was told again - nothing they could do because the diagnostic does not show what the problem is. After my own research on the web I have found that this is probably a problem with the throttle body assembly and that Ford knows about - but my local garage does not want to fix it without knowing for sure that is the problem. I feel very unsafe in this vehicle - maybe the next time I will not be able to get off the freeway/road before it completely stalls.

While driving the car loses power wrench light comes on and the car will not go. It will die as U coast over to the side of the road hoping the whole time the person behind you is not going to rearend you. This was very dangerous. I took it to my local Ford dealership and was advised that the throttle actuator control was struck open they could try cleaning it and reset codes or I could purchase a new throttle control. The technician advised me that cleaning them using fixes the problem and thr throttle control part would be on back order and did not know when they could get it. I asked what if it doesnt fix the problem how much money am I out and then have to buy a throttle control. I feel this is a problem Ford should be fixing when I can google it and there is a known problem.

Loss of power at highway speed. Vehicle decelerated and would only idle. Wrench symbol lit. Shut car off restarted and car was ok until next incident. Failures became more frequent including failures in rush hour highway traffic. Additional failures occurred at slower speed. Diagnostic at the dealer was a throttle body failure.

Driving at highway speed, I heard a 'pop', and the car suddenly lost power. I coasted to the side of the road. The car idled roughly, but would not accelerate. The 'wrench' warning icon lit on the dash as well. I turned the engine off and tried to restart it. It started and ran correctly after that. This has happened two times since then. The dealership reported no codes showing after hooking it to their computer.

While I was up to speed (65 mph), the car's wrench light came on, and lost power. All of the electrical systems were still functioning, but the car would not accelerate. I waited a few minutes, tried the car again, and it made it to my destination, and went trouble-free on the return trip home. The car had the same occurrence on Monday, July 8. at that time, I called roadside assistance who came and towed the car to the dealer that services my car. I was told that the throttle body had to be replaced. Estimated repair cost: $387.

I was driving on a crowded highway at the speed limit of 55 when the engine slowed down and did not respond to the gas pedal. I was able to pull to the side of the road and shut the car off. After several minutes I was able to restart the car. The situation was very dangerous. This was the third time that the vehicle had lost power. The other two times I was just starting from a traffic light so it was not as dangerous. The dealer replaced the throttle body to resolve the problem. It definitely did not seem like this was the first time the dealer had seen the problem. I think this is a serious safety defect in this vehicle.

While driving in city traffic vehicle suddenly seemed to lose drive power. Wrench lite came on as I tried my best to move out of harms way.downtown traffic is dangerous enough without this exciting vehicle failure. Upon further research it appears this is the limp-home mode which one encounters when a throttle body has malfunctioned. I find it hard to believe that Ford has not notified owners of this dangerous situation. It is clear upon internet research that this is occurring far too often. When my Ford service rep told me that this was not covered under warranty on my 37 month old car I left in disgust. I then had the throttle body replaced by a reputable repair shop for the sum of $350. I trust NHTSA will find that this is a real danger and insist upon a recall or information notice to all owners. I can't believe Ford hasn't done this on their own Accord.

We were traveling at approximately 65 miles per hour when the car started to jerk and the wrench light came on the dash. We were unable to accelerate. We were in the middle of traffic, almost causing a wreck, and had to make our way to the curb to turn the car off. After we started it again the wrench light went off and we were able to make it back to where we were staying. We were out of town and we had to take the car to the local dealer in that area. They said it was probably the throttle body sensor and that most of the 2010 Ford Fusion had this same problem and that part was on back order. We were in South Carolina at the time and had to make it back to Virginia. The engine light also came on and we took it to advance auto where the code P2111 showed up as the error which is the throttle body sensor. We have an appointment to take the car to the dealership later this week for this problem, but we cannot drive our car now. I called Ford today and was informed by customer service that this is not a recall as of now. This is going to get someone killed. This is very dangerous because you cannot accelerate. After researching on the internet this is a problem with most 2010 Ford Fusion and feel this should be a recall by the Ford Motor Company.
