CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

I have a 2010 for Fusion. I have had it for 2 years now and it recently started leaking gas a few weeks ago. It is leaking from my tank by the rear passenger tire and it leaks mostly when I fill up or put at least 3/4 tank of gas in the car. I see that there was a recall on my car for this very issue and I am trying to see if it were too late for me to get it looked at as a part of the recall

Recall 15V793000: Fuel tank cracks and leaks fuel. 03/05/2018 my car had check engine light on. I checked it at Firestone service and it showed code P1450. They found that valve cover gasket was leaking. I've been told that this is a recall and I have to go to dealer. While I waited 3 weeks for appointment with dealer my check engine light went off and they just charged me for test and didn't do any repairs. Also they told me that my car was not recalled. Right now I have check engine periodically on for couple days and after that off.

Takata recall, Ford most recently recalled the airbags in my car, however just like my previous recall there is no parts available, they say the car is safe to drive but I don't want to risk my safety as well as the others in my car if it is not. Previously my car was stuck at the Ford dealership for over 8 months due to a fuel system recall, and they refused to buy back the car but did significant damage to the paint, and interior of the car when they had it. I have pictures from those damages that never got repair by Ford or the dealer all they agreed to do was replace the battery in the car.

I TOOK MY 2010 FORD FUSION INTO CROSS ROADS FORD IN SHELBY NC - TELEPHONE NUMBER 704-482-6791 FOR THE GAS TANK RECALL IN JANUARY 2017. THE RECALL IS NUMBER 15534. THE DEALORSHIP SAID THAT THEY DID THE RECALL BUT I CONTINUED TO SMELL FUEL VAPORS. IN THE MEANTIME CLASSIC FORD HAS BEEN PURCHASED BY CLASSIC FORD AND THE SERVICE MANAGER, [XXX] IS TELLING US THAT THIS IS MY PROBLEM AND THAT CLASSIC IS NOT RESPOSNILBLE FOR CROSS ROADS MAINTENANCE ISSUES. I CONTACTED CROSS ROADS FORD AGAIN SEVERAL MONTHS LATER AND THEY SAID THAT THEY HAD ALREADY PERFORMED THE RECALL AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME TO HAVE THEM TO CHECK THE ISSUE AGAIN. I TOOK MY CAR TO EARL TINDOL FORD GASTONIA NC O N NOVEMBER 28 AND SERVICE REP THAT THE VALVE ON THE GAS TANK WAS APPARENTLY NOT FIXED OR FIXED PROPERLY. I CALLED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER SUPPORT ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28 TO SEE IF THEY WOULD ASSIST WITH THE ISSUE AND I WAS DIRECTED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP (CLASSIC FORD) THAT ORGINALY PERFORMED THE RECALL. I CONTACTED [XXX] AT CLASSIC FORD ON NOVEMBER 28 AND HE SAID TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN AND THEY WOULD LOOK AT THE ISSUE. I WAS NOTIFIED ON NOVEMBER 30 THAT THE VALVE IS APPARENTLY NOT WORKING CORRECTLY AND THAT THIS WAS A NON COVERED CHARGE SINCE THE RECALL WAS ALREADY PERFORMED. I PERCEIVE THAT THIS IS A BAD SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE GASOLINE VAPOR SMELL AND THE VEHICLE COULD IGNITE. I FEEL THAT MY CAR SHOULD BE FIXED AT NO CHARGE BECAUSE I HAVE CONTINUED TO SMELL GASOLINE EVEN AFTER THE RECALL. I CAN BE REACHED AT [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I had a new battery placed and the oil changed with my local mechanic. I drove 3.5 miles home and, upon turning into my neighborhood, a red "stop safely now" alert flashed. There was no traffic so I proceeded to my home. Approximately 0.2 miles later the car lost acceleration, continuing at 10mph (even with the gas pedal to the floor) before losing all acceleration. I turned the car off and back on. The alarm had cleared. I restarted the car and drove 300 feet when the alarm recurred. I was 50 feet from my driveway so I restarted the car, cleared the alarm and went 15 feet before it recurred, with no ability to move in drive or reverse. I restarted the car a third time and the alarm had cleared again. I was pulling up my driveway at a significant incline when it recurred. I was able to make it up my driveway and park. I called my mechanic and, after a quick on-line search, he informed me there was Ford technical service bulletin 12-5-14 on this specific issue. This was an extraordinarily dangerous situation. This incident occurred without warning. In other circumstances-my wife or children in the car, driving on the highway, driving in rapidly moving traffic- my family's well-being would have been placed at great risk. Ford should not be allowed to jeopardize the safety of my family for a problem they are clearly aware of and are not addressing, I assume to minimize financial losses. What is being done to hold Ford accountable for ensuring the safety of their customers and other drivers on the road who are also placed at risk by this design flaw Ford acknowledges?

Purchased used 8/1/14, was not informed of any recalls or issues by dealership. April 2017 after learning by searching on google that there was a recall on fuel tank/system. Spoke with Ford Corp. Which emailed the recall process step by step, was influenced to mention the throttle body which was covered under ext. Warranty. Took to dealer in tucson, AZ jim click Ford. After 3 hours of possessing vehicle I received information that fuel tank/ system and throttle body were not affected and no work was required and even after agreement by Ford Corp. And the sales rep. That no diagnostics fee would be charged. I spent 3 hours arguing that it was covered by warranty and recall. Found out later throttle body is recalled issue, that's why ext. Warranty. Issues with fuel/ air intake required inspecting throttle body. Discovered extensive carbon build up and the fuel tank had evidence of rusting. Jim click Ford of tucson damaged vehicle from driver side to pass. Side in center of vehicle including main frame. Changes to the sync and computer became noticeable due to upgraded options that had never been usable. Ignition switch had been removed and replaced with cheap rubber, lighting no longer existed( light for on/off, acc), was told spark plugs and boots needed to be replaced and they had begun work (without permission). Later that week plugs had been pulled nd inspected, only one plug was no good (had them replaced in December by close family friend who owns mechanic shop 40+ years. Employees left box of approx 50 new jim click coffee mugs, foot prints on passenger door, stole debit card, threw girlfriends underwear and bras out of bag and spread out in trunk.

Vehicle was brought in for purge valve recall (the valve was merely inspected but not replaced). Afterwards the check engine light kept coming on intermittently. Bumps in the highway would cause the check engine light to go on or off. When I attempted to sell the vehicle it would not pass inspection. According to the Ford dealer, this same purge valve involved in the original recall became stuck open. Ford was not willing to fix the problematic purge valve free of charge.

While driving on the highway my 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid suddenly lost power and quickly decelerated from 65 mph to less than 20mph. I took it to the dealer who said that the throttle body needed to be replaced. This is the same issue on the non-hybrid Ford Fusion for which Ford has issued an extended warranty under customer satisfaction program 13N03 however Ford has excluded hybrids and manual transmissions that have the same throttle body part.

The hybrid completely shut down at approximately 65 mp on the interstate. It was like turning off the key. A red triangle light said good luck "stop the car". this is within 100 miles having paid 1200 to a Ford dealer to replace throttle body and cooling pump that wasn't one of the 1.6 million Ford had to extend warranties. Shame on nhsta for not making them recall everything.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While at a stop, the vehicle jerked and tended to surge. The contact stated that the same failure occurred when the fuel tank was full. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The failures recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (delehanty Ford in flushing, mi) where it was diagnosed that the purge valve and the charcoal canister needed to be replaced. The technician stated that the purge valve caused fuel to leak into the charcoal canister. The dealer stated that the failure was repaired in 2015 per an unknown recall and the contact would be responsible for any future repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and agreed with the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN search showed one open recall: NHTSA campaign number: 15V793000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was approximately 157,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
