My 2007 Accord came equipped with 17 inch wheel rims and P215/50 17R tires. The wheel rim is wider that the tire. If you make contact with a curb, such as you might in parallel parking, the edge of the wheel rim scrapes against the curb. Honda changed rims and tires in 2008, but on my 2007 model, the rims show abrasion from scraping against curbs. A have a 14-year-old Lexus and the wheel rims look like new because the sidewall of the tire projects about an inch beyond the rim. The wider tire protects the rims from damage.
