CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

Takata recall - Honda sent a notice indicating that the passanger airbag recall repair would take approximately 45 minutes to complete. Local dealerships are stating the repair takes 5-6 hours. Honda is not offering owners any alternative transporation (I.e. rental vehicles). BBB has several complaints filed by frustrated customers to this end. Honda needs to incur all reasonable expenses to make these vehicles safe for consumers.

"takata recall" - Honda mailed a notice of an important safety recall to have the passenger airbag inflator replaced. The letter states that it takes approximately 45 minutes to have this repair performed; however, my nearest Honda dealer stated this repair would take 5-6 hours. Owners are then forced to find means to perform their daily commute without their vehicle, which should not be the owner's responsibility to finance.

Takata recall--M Y husbands Honda Accord 2008 was involved in an accident on January 16, 2013. The accident happened in somerset county NJ. He was hit head on by a drunk driver while driving on a local road on his way home from work. He was killed instantly, my daughter suffered numerous injuries. This accident happened just prior to the first announcement if takata airbags. Since then there have been numerous recalls - it was not until just recently my husbands vehicle was actually recalled. When I was given my husbands belongings G there were numerous pieces of large plastic pieces lodged inside his briefcase which was in the vehicle with him. He died instantly of blunt force trauma to the chest- his heart exploded due to the force of the airbag. We never received any recall notices on his vehicle- I only found out because I have been checking consistently on the recalls.

My airbag light remained on so I got a diagnostic test from pohanka Honda. This occurred before the SRS recall was issued. Honda said I needed to replace my SRS unit along with my gauge control module because they didn't communicate with one another. Honda was going to complete the repair & labor for $1,200. I didn't have the money but was concerned for my family safety so I ordered the parts and got it repaired outside the dealership. Here's the issue, I was seeking reimbursement for parts ($500) but Honda manufacture only willing to reimburse me for just the SRS unit ($200) and not the gauge control module ($300). I believe the recall should also cover the gauge control module since the code that was discovered by the Honda technician revealed the gauge control module had to be replaced as well. Since I followed guidance by pohanka Honda, I'm without $300 because the recall only covered the SRS unit. If pohanka Honda would have completed the repair for $1,200, Honda manufacture would have reimbursed me for $1,200. I believe I'm being penalized because the gauge control module isn't covered under the recall.

Takata recall - received a letter approximately 7 months ago informing me of the airbag recall affecting my vehicle. The letter stated that the replacement part was unavailable at that time, but I would be contacted at a later date when it is available. As of March 27th, I have not received any further communication. The "safercar.gov" website says "recall incomplete. Remedy not yet available", and a search on the official Honda website says that there is "no open recall", so I am unable to replace the airbag. I know that this airbag is faulty and dangerous and I would like to get this fixed asap, but there has been a serious lack of communication on the manufacturers end regarding how to fix this issue and/or how long I have to wait for this repair.

Son driving at speed of 30-35 mph and driver's side curtain airbags spontaneously deployed. Road was smooth, no potholes or debris. Towed car to Honda dealership who informed me that this was not covered under any recalls or manufacturer's warranties even though service tech found no evidence of damage that would have caused the deployment.. cost to repair $8500. Chose to trade car in and purchase another vehicle (not a Honda).

After fixing takata air bag recall for Honda Accord 2008 sedan, SRS air bag light started coming on and stays on even after the car is in drive mode. Gillman Honda (sam houston pkwy, houston tx) wants to charge for detection and fixing of the issue. I have written about 2 weeks ago to Honda Motors America to address this issue since this is a "safety" issue but they have not responded yet. I request NHTSA to investigate since so many Honda cars have "SRS light come on" issues. In many cases as I have read on online forums and blogs the detection is 1. driver side wire harness problem 2. driver side seat belt buckle sensor. Honda Motors should cover this issue as a part of lifetime warranty and a safety recall should be issued immediately on Honda cars with such know problems.
