CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

I was driving and the driver's side visor flopped down obstructing my view. This had happened on the passenger side a few years ago and after I had it replaced the recall came out. Please let me know if Honda will replace it. It is very dangerous to drive along and have the visor fall. It will not stay up, only partially so it falls about 3 inches.

My sun visor broke on the driver side and is now hanging and impairing my vision while driving. The internal mechanism that keeps it in the up position has broken internally.

While driving I went to put my visor down to block the sun and it popped out, dangling by the electric cord. I had to hold it up while driving, otherwise it hung right in front of my face.

I purchased a 2008 Honda Accord and the lights continuously flicker whenever I use the ac or heating. The flickering is so prevalent that I'm afraid that others drivers may think I'm flashing my lights at them. This is a physical safety issue as I'm afraid of road rage as well as the fear that the car will ultimately stop functioning due to the amount of power that appears to be being used when the flickering happens.

I have a 2008 Honda Accord. Each of the past 3 months, the windshield wipers have failed to work properly during use. Each time, they would be working and would stop. Honda service technicians replaced the windshield wiper motor after the 1st and 3rd incident. I believe they modified the bearings after the 2nd incident. The parts appear to fail about every 30 days or so.

2008 Honda Accord drivers windshield wiper drags the water it was suppose to wipe away back into the operators field of vision. Starts at 40 to 45 mph with steady rain and worsens as the vehicle speed increases, at 70 it is bad. Dealer says that it does it on all Accord and there is no fix.

2008 Honda Accord drivers windshield wiper drags the water it was suppose to wipe away back into the operators field of vision. Starts at 40 to 45 mph with steady rain and worsens as the vehicle speed increases, at 70 it is bad. I have pictures. Blade replaced 3 times, arm replaced once, no help. Honda has been notified. Honda is stonewalling me by not contacting back after their initial call, threatening to assume the concern is repaired after sending me a letter that said in 10 days they assume the complaint is no longer a concern. Poor customer service. Other people with 2008 Accord have the same problem. (edmunds carspace)

Lights go dim and then brighten back up very often like every few seconds, other drivers think I'm flashing them this action seems to be very un safe for drivers. Also when raining the wipers pull the rain water back down the windshield about half way down the drivers side from the a frame.

Events - normal driving. How often - every time driving the automobile. What was done? nothing. Dealer stated this is normal performance of the vehicle. Description - headlights dim while driving the automobile. I stated to the dealer that I am concerned about, the vehicle will be poorly illuminated, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash. However, the dealer stated that this is a normal performance for the Honda Accord. I am fearful of driving this car at night due to the amount that the headlights dim.

2008 Honda Accord sedan. While driving in a steady rain at 55 mph and above the rain water collects on the windshield near the driver's side A-frame pillar. The windshield wiper removes the water from the windshield but because of the design of the A-frame pillar it allows the rain water to return to about 1/4 of the driver's viewing area thus obstructing the view until the wiper returns to remove the water. This process continues until either the rain lets up or speed is reduced. Having this obstructed view is a hazard for the driver. I was told by the salesperson when I bought the vehicle the A-frame pillar was redesigned so that wind would be funneled away from the driver and passenger front side windows but this redesign does not allow water to be completely removed from the windshield. I have also experienced this hazard at other times than the November 29, 2008 incident.

1) headlight projection very poor. Difficult to see100 feet ahead. This is exacerbated by a draw on the electrical system that makes the headlights dim while car is in motion. I will not drive the car at night or at night while it is raining. I feel that the car is dangerous and on several occasions I almost hit pedestrians walking or on a bicycle. This occurs on a daily basis and is constant. The Honda dealer inspected the issue once and stated that there was no defect, but that the car operates to normal specification and id comparable to all 2008 Honda Accord 4 cylinder models. This issue was prevalent since I took delivery of the new car in July, 2008. 2.) since taking delivery of this vehicle and to the present date, there is a wobble/wheel shimmy in the suspension at various speeds and different degrees of severity on a daily basis. On the first repair attempt the dealer replaced several tires and performed a high tech wheel balance using a hunter 9700 road force balancing machine. The problem was not corrected. On the second visit the dealer test drove the car and stated that the issue is a characteristic of the vehicle and other Honda Accord 4 cylinder models with the same engine, transmission and suspension. Conclusion: This car is dangerous, exhibits very poor steering and ride as it wanders and shimmies all over the road. This problem combined with poor headlight projection and dimming headlights make this vehicle a major hazard on wheels.

2008 Accord I4 automatic transmission LX problem, lights dim and blower for heater/defrost slows. It occurs every 20 to 25 seconds. The change in the blower for the heater/defrost is such that it sounds as if you turned the blower speed down significantly and then turned it back up. At the same time the lights dim significantly. I have read many posts here of lights dimming with the A/C running and that Honda says this is normal. This is dangerous because of the eye strain caused by the lights dimming and then brightening over and over again.

While driving at night time the headlights flicker 1 to 2 times per minute. If the A/C unit or heater/defroster are on it occurs 2 to 3 times per minute. Twice while driving with the defroster and windshield wipers on. The headlights stayed dim for 2 to 3 seconds. I took the car to the Honda dealer were I purchased it. They said they already had other vehicles with this problem and there was no fix. I returned one month later, the service manager gave me the Honda 800# and told me to call Honda motor Corp. The answer I get there is no recall.

4-cyl engine shutdown at traffic light while idling. Car would not restart, windows and moonroof would open but not close, shift lever would not go out of "park". by some miracle driver and car survived rush hour traffic at dusk with assistance from police officer. Car towed to Honda dealer who replaced 50 amp fuse (actually a multiple fuse) labeled "ig". dealer advised by Honda to giggle wires to try to duplicate problem. Problem did not reoccur and dealer returned car after 4 days. Old part not available. I doubt that the fuse was defective and suspect problem will reoccur. 4300 miles on car, an ex.
