CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Honda Accord has several serious defects – poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

I was driving my 2009 Honda Accord 4dr sdn about 70 miles per hr. When the glass on the sunroof blew out the top. It was not hit by a rock or anything as we were not following anyone or met anyone going in the opposite direction. The glass was almost all sucked up and out the top so very little fell in on us. We took it to dealer and had the repairs made.

Rear frame was not bolted down to spec in the factory causing the car to be unsure while driving. Numerous bolts were loose. Transmission has a shredding and tearing noise when put in reverse and then drive. Brakes are grinding and cause the car to possibly lurch forward while foot is on brake. Noise in the passenger side door panel and in the rear of car.

Creaking in the rear shelf deck in trunk. The creaking occurs whenever there is flexing of the body of the car such as in turning corners, turning into a driveway or driving over uneven ground. Sheet metal was pulled away from each other in the rear shelf in an attempt to prevent the metal on metal creaking. There have been reports from other owners that the cause of the creaking is due to a broken or several broken spot welds in the rear shelf of the car.
