Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety. Notes: The 2009 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

My driver side (left) courtesy light will not automatically turn on when the door(s) open nor when the remote is used to unlock the car. Yes the switch is set to door mode. Yes the light works when manually pushed. Yes all other lights come on when the door(s) open. The bulb is fine, the fuse is fine, and the door-light switch is fine. I find this to be a safety issue, not particularly regarding driving, but for my physical safety. I need this issue resolved so if I need to use this light in particular, I can.

I've had numerous incidents which can be considered close calls with Honda Accord in recent months. Besides being blinded by the high beam drls (both from the front and the rear), I have had trouble seeing usage of the Honda's turn signals. This is due to the high light density of the drl next to the small turn signals. I highly recommend that these drl be eliminated. Thank you.

I have notice that while I am driving at night, my 2009 Honda Accord's headlights will dim. Sometimes so low that if makes it hard to see. At this time I can't correlate it to the air conditioning, heater or anything else. The lights just dim down randomly and have increased in frequency over the past few months. We purchase the car in August of 2009 and it has done this from day 1. the Honda service department where we bought the car says it is a normal load issue.

Extreme overintensity of brake lights on late model Honda Accord sedans (through MY2009) and Toyota Camry cars (through 2010). These led lights cause severe eye discomfort to motorists behind these cars, especially at night.

Headlights flicker at any given time, at idle, or when driving at any speed. Not just once, but has happened six or seven times in succession on the highway. Honda is aware of the problem but according to the dealership, they say it's "normal".

Bought a new 2009 Honda Accord lxp my head lights flicker on and off every 30 to 60 seconds when driving at night with the ac on. This is a problem because other drivers think that you are flashing your lights at them. Other drivers might think that I am driving aggressively and this can result in aggressive response from other drivers this is a very big security risk.

Flickering headlights on 2009 Honda Accord - this happens at somewhat regular intervals, extremely annoying and has an impact on the driver's ability to Focus (since I am always waiting for the next flicker).

  • 1,250 miles
When vehicle air conditioning is on, headlights and other lighting dim noticeably. Headlights are the most worrisome as diminished lighting can make night driving hazardous. On-coming vehicles have "flashed" their lights in response to this "flicker". Honda states this a normal attribute of this vehicle.

2009 Honda Accord ex 4 cylinder- my cars cabin and headlights dim ever 20 seconds. This is not only annoying, but it is dangerous as well. The lights go really dim then slowly come back on. Other drivers think I am flashing at them, and my visibility lessens each time it dims.

Headlights on brand new 2009 LX-P 4 cylinder Honda Accord flicker momentarily about every 15 seconds when the air conditioner is on. This is dangerous because it is distracting to the driver and also because it could be interpreted as aggressive driving by other drivers. Honda is aware of the issue but refuses to fix the problem because they say it is "normal". flickering headlights are not normal...they are dangerous!
