My 2016 Accord had a musty odor from the AC system vents from the day I drove this new car off the dealer lot. I changed the cabin filter twice a year thinking the smell was from just dust/dirt. After 4 years of ownership, I decided to change the spark plugs. This is when I seen the black oily dirty spot on the aluminum AC pipe at the firewall connecting to the expansion valve. The seals were leaking and pipe may have been cracked?
Took to dealer, technician verified concern, very low on fluid, confirmed leak using dye, conducted repair and resolved problem. Cost was $225. Not expected for a car with 30,000 miles on it. Car was out of bumper to bumper warranty but, I think Honda covered the parts and a portion of the labor. Can't complain with that. Just hope the AC doesn't have a short life span.
