steering completely locked up. code c10a d29

I do have to start off saying this vehicle is a salvage vehicle that we fixed. There was a direct front center hit. There was never any damage to any of the suspension of steering components. We fixed the front parts and since 4,000 miles we have been driving the Q5 3.0 diesel. I have several cars and this one sat for 2 months. When I went to start one day the code came on and it stated sensor and motor position implausible. Took to the dealer and they said the computer inside the electric steering rack is bad and the whole rack needs to be replace and the cost would be approximatly $3300 to fix. I will pick up and see if we can find a rack from another Audi but felt this shoudl simply not have been an issue. I am reading all sorts of steering issues with Audi and decided to report this as it may affect someones safety and if other people are having problems I certainly hope they report the issues to keep others safe. The steering is completely locked. I am glad this did not happen while I was driving with my children in the vehicle. Even though this is a salvage issue I would think Audi may want to replace this as if it is found to be a safety issue and anyone is harmed this should cause serious concern.

Could my issue be a result of the original accident? I do not believe so because of the way the original hit was taken and the fact that the Q5 ran flawless for the first 4000 + miles driven. I can not say with complete certainty that this issue was not a result of the accicent but I hope if there is an underlying issue that Audi is becoming aware of they would do the right thing and bring it to the attention of the public and fix the problem immediatly. I would like to hear if others have had similar issues.
