The contact owns a 2015 BMW X5. The contact stated while driving at approximately 70 MPH, she began to notice smoke coming from passenger side on the hood. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V755000( Engine and Engine Cooling) but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The contact mentioned that instrument cluster failed to provide safety messages. The contact stated the instrument cluster only notified her of issues when she attempted to open the engine hood door. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 49,000.

Rod bearing failure causing engine to be damaged. The car has 79k miles, fully maintained at a BMW dealership. My wife and toddler were driving on the highway when the car shut off with no warning. We towed the car to the same BMW dealer where we-€™ve had the car serviced since 34,673 miles.. The dealer documented metal flakes in the oil filter. The dealer confirmed a rod bearing spun causing a catastrophic failure to the engine requiring replacement. Initial quote exceeding price of car at $74k. BMW Corporate contacted me and offered a discount on a new engjne. I declined the offer because the repair work was $32,843. This rod bearing issue is a known problem among 2015-2018 BMW X5M owners. This problem in fact existed on a previous generation engine which is referred to as the S65 motor. BMW has released a bulletin to this group of owners guaranteeing replacement based on the amount of miles on a customers engine. In some cases, a free engine was provided by BMW at no cost to the customer. The car only had 79k miles and without BMW NA involved the dealer wanted $74,332 to replace and repair vehicle. The BMW supervisor on this case is Lindsay and she can be reached at (800) 831-1117 ext. 115. She disregarded this was a safety matter and thought other owners shouldn-€™t be compensated or warned about this complete loss of power while driving this particular model (2015-2018 BMW X5M). This is an unacceptable outcome for a car with a MSRP is over $100,000. I-€™ve talked to half a dozen other 2015-2018 BMW X5M owners who also had total engine failure due to this same rod bearing issue. All of the cases the engine exceeded the cost or current market value of car.

I have a recall notice for an EGR cooler in my 2015 BMW x5 diesel. At first there was no part available, for at least a year. Now a part has been available since September 2022. I sold the vehicle to my son in Roanoke, VA in September 2022. His dealer claims he can't get the part. This is a SAFETY issue. My original dealer in California had the part, but is telling my son he no longer has a part and in order to get a part from the warehouse, my son's Roanoke dealer HAS to be part of the Penske auto system. The Roanoke, VA dealer was sold around September 2022 and has been totally inept, can't get the part, made some other repair which was incorrect and now my son is driving a safety defective vehicle. This may not be the proper place to make a report, however the recall notice says to make a report, gives a website and says I can get information at the website, but not true. Additionally, the printed phone number does not work.

I purchased the vehicle in Feb 2022. I received a call from my dealer about the recall last week, they said they would perform the repair on 01/26/23. I picked the vehicle up the next day without them having performed the repair because the VIN still shows "remedy not available". The dealer did not even assess the safety issue when the car was brought in. I do not know if the car is safe to drive. Neither the dealer nor BMW have set expectations for when the recall is to be performed. What do I do next?

BMW is telling me that they do not have the parts to fix this--13 months. THis is ridiculous. This is a FIRE hazard. What can be done? also your hotline does not work when dialed--- the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 1-888-327-4236

Coolant continues to leak because of this still unfixed issue. It still makes noises that it shouldn't. Its been EIGHT MONTHS since this recall was issued and still not fixed. It's unacceptable. There is a risk of fire and BMW is dragging it's feet!

Important safety recall issued, rcall campaign No 21V-907: EGR Cooler. BMW. Since the recall the engine is producing a weird noise, indicated as one of the effects, and the car has had so far two repairs performed in February and March, most probably as effects of this recall: diesel transfer pump had to be replaced and diesel particular sensor. Remedy is unavailable and BMW is not giving any solution so far, while i am incurring in high repair costs and the unavailability of my vehicle.

Sometimes when I drive the vehicle I smell smoke and there is a strong burning plastic smell. Occasionally, I see see smoke from the engine compartment. When I raise the hood it appears the smoke is coming from the back of the engine unit on the passenger side of the SUV. The problem is intermittent. Since COVID I barely drive so I have fairly low trip mileage.

My husband was driving 20-25 mph and heard a loud "boom" - then his engine compartment began smoking. We had the vehicle towed to the BMW dealership. A rod was thrown through the engine compartment and the engine needed to be replaced. We are the original owners of the vehicle and service it regularly. There were no leaks, noises, lights, nor any other indications of trouble prior to the engine blowing up.

Started my car like normal and ran for 30 seconds after leaving Walmart after I picked up a few things then the car shut off out of no where.. attempted to start again and the car tried to turn over then even stopped doing that after a few attempts.. I had the car towed to my home.. my husband then inspected the vehicle and the high pressure fuel pump has failed causing my engine to lock up.. I have maintained this vehicle like I should because I loved my car and my husband is a mechanic.. This vehicle only with 127000.. this should of not happened I have read bmw is going to recall this but when my vin is ran nothing shows up.. I owe on this vehicle still and it really has put me in a bind financially with having to miss work and having to find other transportation.. this is ridiculous. I got no warning lights or any noise warnings.

2015 X5 diesel had its check engine light illuminate @ ~85,650 miles while driving normally at surface street speeds. Did not notice any driveability/performance issues, but took vehicle to dealer within a week. Check engine light would go on and off for the week leading up to dropping off. Dealer diagnosed as failure of 2 injectors. Cylinders 1 and 2. paid to have vehicle repaired and appears to be driving normally and no return of cel as of yet (about 50 miles). BMW has an extended 120,000 mile warranty (sib 01 09 19) on injectors for the model year 2016 and 2017 X5 diesel with the same engine and same injectors as well as various my 2015, 2016, and 2017 diesel vehicles. Coverage should be extended to model year 2015 X5 as well as believe it likely the 4 remaining original injectors will fail as well. Hopefully BMW will add extended warranty of the injectors to the 2015 my X5 diesels which would allow for reimbursement.

I randomly began smelling fumes in vehicle when stopped at traffic lights. Questioned my da at classic BMW of plano. He said not air or fuel filter, all is okay. A couple months later the car engine stopped at red light in the city of rowlett. I was able to get it started & into a lot, would not crank, had it towed, diagnosed as fuel injectors. My husband advised there was a recall, I questioned BMW usa, said only 2011-2014. I requested escalation to confirm no issues with 2015, was told nothing they could due unless reported by 'master' technician. I went forward with $1529 repair of 1 injector although research indicated all 6 should be replaced if 1 is bad. Sa insisted not necessary. Began smelling fumes again Jan 2020, expected another fi bad, diagnosed as catalytic converter, research indicates possibly caused by bad fuel injectors. Want to document because expecting others to have same issues at 85K+. my mfg warranty ended Dec 2020, car is regularly maintained by dealership yet they say no way to prevent. I believe issues are related to the start/stop

As the vehicle was approaching a stop sign, the car accelerated on its own and I was unable to stop using the brakes. The car went off the road and hit a tree causing severe damage to the car. The malfunction was reported to BMW and we have insisted (on several occasions) a report upon their inspection of the car - have not received anything to date. Instead they offered a nominal sum to release them from any liability associated with the incident. The car was still under factory warranty at the time of the malfunction.
