About 13 months ago I bought a used 2004 Chevy Avalanche and since then the check engine light has never gone off. I have put about $2,000 in repairs since I bought it, it would have been more if I didn't do the work myself.

Recently on my way home from work the truck went out of gear, so I had it towed to two different dealers and they said that it needed a new transmission which is about $4,000. Then I towed it to AAMCO to see what they could come up with. To my surprise it wasn't the transmission, it was the engine itself. Turns out Chevy put defective heads in several vehicles from 2004 thru 2006 for the Avalanche which allowed antifreeze to mix with the oil. Since it wasn't life threatening Chevy didn't do a recall, they just put a notice out and me buying it used I had no knowledge of the problem.

I have always been a fan of Chevy, but this upsets me that they would put out bad vehicles and not want to fix them. So now I'm stuck with a payment and a repair bill of $6,000 for a new engine. THANKS CHEVY!!

bought this used.. should have known, but 1 owner, great shape with light wear as for a 2004 goes. had it only a couple months when the engine light came on. had it checked by 2 different places with the little box thing they hook up. both said it was a sensor within the gas tank, maybe. said there were 2, one of which was bad. so had it replaced, light came back on, so they replaced it again, light cane right back on, so they replaced the other one, light is back on.. this time the auto lace took it all apart, checked everything, making sure the seals, pressure what ever else they look at is good. 2 days later, came back on.. so still have an engine light on, and no one can tell me why or get it to go off more than a week..

any ideas.. it doesn't stop here, but that'll be another issue.. :)
