Am trying to determine if the problem is a recall or an isolated incident. Paul seems the only other person to file this complaint. Is there another public domain of which list this problem more often that could force a class action suit? Any knowledge will be appreciated and helpful.

This is not the first time I have seen this message displayed. "Stabilitrack Disabled"

It has happened in the driveway when I start the vehicle. It happened when I was driving the vehicle, I was able to limp to a light that had turned red and I thought the engine was going to fall out onto the ground.

I have seen it since at different times, once at 70mph, but am able to safely stop, shut off the engine and rest the message.

There are no error codes for this.

I have been doing work on my vehicle that requires the use of an OBDII scanner, I have noted that when the scanner is plugged in the message is more prevalent and repeatable.

My conclusion (keep in mind I have an electronics manufacturing background) The ECU that is being used for these vehicles was not designed with enough noise suppression on the sensor inputs to prevent outside noise from triggering this message. I also believe that there are some programming issues also related to this message.

Update from Mar 30, 2013: As an update, I have been swapping between two throttlebody's for some testing that I am doing. In conversation with others doing similiar testing it was determined that some dealerships have decided that the throttle position sensor to be high on the list of possible culprits and are swapping out the throttlebody.

This makes sense as a trigger, the logic being that the throttle position sensor lags or hickups at some point and the ECU reacts (not responds). The reaction, from my view is that the "programmers" of this version decided to use the Stabilitrak module to control the engine at this point without taking other factors into account, like being on a highway doing 70mph.

My stabilitrac lights started coming on while driving to work. Upon leaving for work it was hard starting and shifted hard into 2nd. My brother has a repair shop and he scanned it. It showed nothing. Has tried several things since but no luck. I think I am looking at taking it to the chevy dealer, but hate to. I know they will just throw parts at it as well and I can do that. Was hoping someone may have come across an answer to the issue or at least a starting point.

Thanks,

Avalanche LT 1 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 72,000 miles

The traction control/ stabilatrac continues to disengage and creates a very rough ride including the engine runs like complete sh*t and shakes the whole truck when in idle. Took it to the dealer they said no computer faults found and they performed a full fuel injector cleaning and replaced a spark plug the was fouled out. Upon completion I was given a 410.00 bill and they said that they hope this fixed the problem and sent me on my way. Well it is now the beginning of April 2010 and behold the same problems are arising again. Just pissed off that they say they fix sh*t and they don't have a clue as to what they fixed just total bullshit. They will be getting a call from me on Monday the 5th and I will find out what they are going to do about it!!!!! extremely pissed off!!!

Avalanche Z 71 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 44,000 miles

I have been to the Dealers Service Dept 3 times with this problem the first time we were still under warranty but the last 2 visits i had to pay for still without resolving the problem. After starting the truck within 2 mins the Stabilitrak shuts down and comes up in the DIP message system then the following message reads Traction Control Off. Then it comes on and withing 2 mins back off, then on and again off no matter if your idling or driving. The only problem is that when your driving it effects the Transmission to where it shifts into gear very hard. The dealer cannot find any codes on this and claims to have no knowledge on what the problem could be even though this has been a ongoing problem with several other models over the past 4 years. From what i am reading in several different places.GM engineering is still working on this problem and it has only gotten worse and much more frequent and is guaranteed only to cause more problems down the road. The dealers service dept will use the process of elimination for as long as i let them as i keep paying to replace parts that match what ever codes come up because they haven't any clue of what their doing, they have all become parts changers.
