This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Dashboard is cracked in several places near the passenger airbag and instrument cluster. It may eventually crack enough that big pieces will pop loose and chunks of my dash will be gone. ABS glue is the only thing that works to join the seams together to stop the dash from shaking and making tons of noise. The shaking likely caused the cracks to grow more also prior to me finally through lots of trial and error successfully gluing it. Hopefully it will keep the current crack from growing. But only time will tell. And new ones will likely appear if the old ones do not spread. Also, the air vent cover has broken in a long crack, and even worse most of the tabs that hold it down have broken off. Thus, it sticks up looking ugly and rattles. This too is likely to break up more from all the rattling.
Dashboard cracks thoughtout the dashborad, first appeared by the air bag then more appeared over the instarment cluster then the defroster vent panel, sections are completly breaking away

Possible dash fragments if airbag is deployed. Dash has pointed plastic fragments falling through dash around airbag area. Dash has many complete through cracks around airbag area. If airbag deploys sharp plastic fragments may be projected to passenger. Not only if metal fragments from airbag that may hit windshield and then towards passenger or gas pressure from igniter force plastic with possible metal that ultimately causes airbag to hit passenger.
The interior seat belts are cutting grooves in the plastic where they come out from on rear passenger seats. Also the interior door handles which are covered with chrome are peeling and the faux chrome is sharp an causes cuts if not opening the door from inside carefully. The cuts on fingers are painful. Has occurred to myself and passengers unaware of issue.
Defective dashboard deck area surrounding passenger airbag is heavily cracked with sharp edges which pose a hazard if airbag is deployed. Sharp dashboard crack edges on drivers side and passenger side may be struck by driver or passenger in an accident or may become air born resulting in sever injury and/or blindness in an accident situation.
Cracked dash above the passenger air bag on my 2009 GMC Sierra and my 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. Could cause a safety hazard if the airbag was deployed and is not aesthetically pleasing considering the money spent on the vehicle.
The dash is cracking bad that where the passenger side air bag has completely cracked off and fell into the inner dash... I can not fix this. Is this a defect that can be fixed through a recall of some sort... every time I go over a bump or any slight bump in the truck you can hear the plastic crack each time
Takata recall I have been patience waiting to have my airbags recalled. Every time I contact the car dealership that I purchased my truck, they keep telling me that my truck can't be serviced to replace my defected takata air bags. I was in an accident in Feb 6th 2017. It wasn't my fault and the air bags didn't explode.
There are several large cracks in my dashboard with sharp shards of plastic which have already broken off or are hanging off. These shards and sharp edges present a significant hazard to vehicle occupants if the vehicle were to be involved in a accident. These cracks seem to be related to shoddy craftsmanship/materials used by Chevrolet and have gotten worse over the years.
The dashboard is severely cracked above the steering column and passenger airbag panel. I am concerned for safety and see in online forums that this is a common problem
Dash has cracked and broken at left top corner of passenger side airbag and over instrument panel on drivers side. Entire dash is very brittle. This could lead to serious injury or death in the event of airbag deployment. I have seen hundreds if not thousands of these complaints for all Chevy and GM trucks and SUV's in this year vehicle and the years following it. Will it take a piece of dash flying through someone's jugular vein to get GM to finally care about customer safety?
The dash is cracked in two places, one is right at the corner of the passenger air bag, the second is above the instrument panel. I was told this is happening in all GM trucks 2007-2013. GM and the dealer will not fix. I am afraid that if the air bags deploy the dash will be shrapnel. And cosmetically it looks horrible and rattles. GM needs to recall.
