The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. When the ignition was turned to the on position, the air bags deployed without warning.the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the sensing diagnostic module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 68,000.
Dash board has cracked around the passengers air bag and General Motors has failed to acknowledge this as a safety concern and issue a recall. I'm writing this on behalf of all 2007-20013 GM truck owners who have experienced this same problem and GM has failed to offer any assistant in making repairs once warranty has expired. I say this because it's happen on my own account and thousands other in reading the forums on the web. My main concern is that the air bag is not properly seated in the dash once the cracks occur around it and could have a major effect to it properly deploying. Furthermore if it did happen to deploy it would have the potential of the weakened dash to explode and send sharp particles of plastic throughout the cabin possibly causing further injuries. I would appreciate it if you could look into this as a serious concern on behalf of all GM truck owners.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that the front passenger side air bag compartment was cracked. Also, the contact mentioned that the dashboard was cracked near the steering column. The vehicle was not diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 18,000... updated 03-11-15 updated 10/15/15
A big crack appeared on my 2007 Chevy Avalanche dashboard just above the cluster (passengers side). A second crash appeared just next to the passenger air bag cover, which is a potential safety issue.. I wouldn't like to see plastic parts on my passengers eyes if an accident occurs.
As I was driving my Avalanche the stability track and traction control turned on my truck reduced power to half and it pulled right. I drove into lots of dirt and my brakes were affected too. I have been having issues with my 2007 avalance stabilitrak traction control turning off intermitingly. I have had my truck to the dealer 3 times on this issue and I am still with the same problem. This started over a year ago and when bringing it in for service there were no codes found for this problem. Today after picking up my truck once again and paying the dealer to replace the remote control door lock receiver being one of the codes showing this did not solve the problem and the part removed was still good. It seems to me that the service dept at the Chevy dealer has no clue on how to solve this problem. Everytime I start my truck even sitting at idle the bell starts chiming and the triangle signand the warning reads service stabilitrak then service traction control (off) activates within a few miniuts. This keeps going on and off as I am driving and when its in the off position the trans shifts gears very hard. Looking trough this forum I can see that this had been a major problem in the past with 2003 and up and there are many people talking aboutthis issue with their trucksbut I have not come across anyone who can give the answer on how to resolve this problem. Dose anyone else have this problem or have heard of this being a problem with an answer.

Noticed cracks in dashboard around 25,000 miles called GM and complained... was told to take truck to local dealer and after complaining dash was replaced... now I notice the replace dash has since broken again! this time it did not crack instead pieces that connect the dash are broken. Now there is a big gap in the dash were it is suppose to connect.
There is a crack in dash at site of passenger airbag and a crack on dash above instrument cluster panel. Never had an accident or damage to vehicle. We are the original owners. We are concerned that the passenger airbag could be compromised and deploy without incident. Don't know how long it has been there but noticed it in June. With all the airbag recalls, we feel this could be one also as we have found other Chevrolet owners with the same issue.
Premature deployment of rt head air bags and lt head air bags, with no contact with another vehicle or any road hazard. Safeco adjuster stated that it was a mechanical problem.
My dashboard cracked at the narrowest part, which is also at the corner of the airbag station (passenger side). I can have a cover made for it. (I'm not sure I could afford to have it replaced) but, my main concern is, could that interfere with the deployment of the passenger side airbag?
I noticed that my dash had 2 cracks, one on the driver side and one around the airbag on the passenger side. I believe the one around the air bag to be a safety concern, either the functionality of the airbag or the broken pieces of plastic if the airbag is deployed.
I have cracks in my dash right around the airbag cover. 2 of them around an inch long and expanding as time goes on. I worry about if a airbag deploys that it may cause plastic to break off and fly into someones face, not allow a bag to deploy correctly or cut an airbag as it deploys. From things I've found using google this is a very common issue that GM will not admit to or fix. They even went as far as to change the dash part(reinforced plastic in the problem areas) and the part number. It's my understanding that this part still does this. But seems to take longer to appear.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. While driving approximately 30 mph, another vehicle failed to stop at a traffic light. The contact's vehicle crashed into the other vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.
I had backed up a jet ski into a parking space. I had got out of the car to check spacing and got back in and closed the door. Went to place vehicle in drive and both side airbags deployed with my four year old son in the back seat.
My dashboard has two large cracks around the passenger and drivers side airbags....I see this is a big problem for many people so I'm not quite sure why they are not looking into it!
My air bag light on the dash light up and I brought it in to kolor Chevy in duluth, mn.. they told me that they had received a letter on the problem and wanted to charge me between $200 and$ 300. I told them that I thought the air bags were a requirement by law to be in working order. They told me the bags may not work and wouldn't fix them with out payment as there is no recall however they were aware of the problem. Can you check this for me?? Well known issue that the dash cracks around the airbags, if the airbags do deploy, this can send deadly sharp plastic pieces flying because the dash plastic is so brittle. Huge safety issue. Very common on these year model Tahoe, Suburban and Avalanche but GM will not correct.
Driving on a normal paved road I heard two fairly loud "pop" sounds. Stopped and pulled over to see if I could find source of the sounds. Nothing had fallen, no windows broken, but noticed 2 cracks on upper dashboard where the passenger airbag resides. Pressed on that area and was able to see the dash had completely cracked apart and was "flopping". proceeded to drive and in next mile another "pop" sound occurred, this time it was an even larger crack on the left side of the dash near the instrument panel, and the entire top portion of the dash drivers side to passenger side was now bouncing up and down by about 1-2inches. I fear if the drivers A-pillar side airbag or the passenger main airbag are deployed, that fragments and large pieces of the hard dash plastic can be thrown at high-speed to people in the cabin...this is not acceptable as a safety concern. I attempted a resolution thru GM, who wanted almost $1000 to do the repair, even though the acknowledge its a common problem, they do not seem willing to come to a common resolution. My dash is cracked right at the top left of my passenger airbag. My dash is also cracked on the left side of the dash near steering column. The are hundreds of online forms with the same issues with the same vehicle all you have to do is type in Avalanche dash board cracks in a search engine. My big issue is I can not get any Chevy dealer to tell me the crack will not affect the deployment of the airbag. This a big safety concern if I get in a accident.
The dashboard on my Avalanche has developed a fairly significant crack right next to the passenger side airbag. The crack starts from towards the windshield side and leads up to and terminates at the crevice where the airbag is located. This in my opinion jeopardizes the integrity of the airbag. The concerns are that (a) the airbag may not deploy in the intended direction (B) may get ruptured due to making contact with the sharp edges of the crack or (C) may deploy unintentionally due to the weakness of the material holding it in place. This is a safety issue and GM needs to address it as such.
