Captiva LX 3.2L

Key gets stuck in ignition, Have to restart car numerous times to finally get key out, Driving with cruise control on it kicks off and the radio quits along with the parking brake light comes on. While in cruise control if I turn on blinker or high beams the cruise kicks out and the radio goes black. Paid close to $600 to have the BCM replaced and its still doing the same thing.

Captiva LT 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,500 miles

Initial issue was getting a dash-panel light and audible chimes: "Service Traction Control" and a icon of a capital "P" with a wrench. I thought using the E-Brake might be causing the errors. But it has only gotten worse as time goes by. The vehicle has just "shut down" on busy roads. Recently, while engaging the emergency flashers, the vehicle shut down and we were unable to get the key out of the ignition. Sometimes the radio just randomly shuts off and then magically comes back on again. Sometimes the radio shuts off when using cruise control or turn indicators.

I also noticed that after a lengthy shutdown (1 or 2 minutes), the radio's clock ALWAYS needs to be re-entered, but the FM preset channels NEVER need to be. Too weird, right? There seems to be a number of customers with very similar issues and I'm wondering how

long General Motors is going to ignore this problem? Why hasn't GM officially responded? If they have, what is their solution? For cripe's sake, if there are two hundred Captiva complaints reported in NHTSA, why wouldn't GM just FIX the gol-darned problem?! If I made a crappy widget at work my boss would expect me to fix it, pronto.

Just remember GM, it was the U.S. taxpayers who bailed your a$$ out back in 2008. Geez, you big corporations are compensating your bosses millions, if not billions, but you're screwing the little people who struggle to drive your wrecks back and forth to work every day! You'd better hope no deaths are attributed to this problem. It could end up costing you MORE than you ever imagined...

Captiva LTZ ?

  • Automatic transmission
  • 180,235 miles

I bought this car for my daughter who is attending college 4 hours away, so she would have a dependable vehicle to drive in the winters of Minnesota and Wisconsin. About 2 - 3 months ago she began to notice while driving when she would activate the turn signal the cruise and radio would turn off. Now while driving if you activate the turn signal, high beams, door locks, adjust the seat the radio and cruise will turn off. She has been stranded twice now where the car will not start, imitating a dead battery. Then after letting the car sit awhile it starts up. Today I drove 7-1/2 hours to switch vehicles with her in order to return it to the shop and try to figure this out. I noticed the headlights would dim when this happened. I am not very happy with this vehicle right now.

The electrical system in this vehicle has significant issues. The A/C and radio go on and off repeatedly. The stability-track and parking brake lights go on and off, the blinkers and dash lights have all lit up and gone off while driving. We had the battery replaced in February and these problems continue. When it got really bad I unhooked the battery and everything reset. The problems stopped for about 2 weeks then started again.
