2005 Chevrolet Corvette - automatic transmission frequently sticks in the park position. Turning the ignition off and back on will eventually clear the situation but may have to be done several times to get the shifter to come out of park. These malfunctions are well documented in on-line forums relating to Corvettes. In many cases, a costly repair is only a temporary fix as the new components (shifter assembly) eventually fail as well. Come on GM step up and take care of these issues as they have the potential of putting the safety of operators at risk.

A known GM defect exists on 2005 Chevrolet Corvettes. My automatic shift was stuck in park, hundreds of Corvette owners have suffered this exact defect preventing the vehicle to be moved, stranding the driver for hours in parking lots, garages etc. On a highway 215 beltway in las vegas Nevada my Corvette was stuck in park, I could not get it in drive to move to a safe place. This has happened over 10 times. I contacted GM. They did respond, now are ignoring my issue. They have made no admission nor offering a resolution in this matter. My Corvette is now being repaired at ed bozarth Chevrolet in las vegas Nevada at my expense for a bill of over $1,100. A defective shifter solenoid is part of the defect with a bending of the shifting cable & plastic shift assembly located under the center console. My Corvette is extremely well maintained by me. You may google-" 2005 Corvette automatic shifter defect" for further proof a serious defect common on this model creating a safety issue. Brake shift lock fails to disengage and leaves gear shift stuck in park. Leaves vehicle unable to be driven. GM is aware of this wide spread problem but has done nothing to correct it. Charges unreasonable fees to fix because they will only replace entire shifter assembly when problem is only a much cheaper solenoid that can be replaced by itself. Car will leave you stranded with no warning.

Car sometimes won't shift out of park even though the brake is pressed. When this happens, repeated pumping of the brakes and shaking/hitting on the shift lever will eventually clear the problem. This is the same issue reported in these NHTSA id numbers for the 2005 Corvette: 10592630, 10592213, 10588824, 10586012, 10585827, 10579307, 10578116, 10577960, 10575060, 10573555, 10567037, 10561669, 10558088, 10513088. Chevrolet apparently has no tsb or recall for this common issue.

2005 Corvette with automatic transmission. Shifter gets stuck in park and cannot be released. Has happened multiple times. Can only be released by following a series of steps as outlined in manual. Believe the cause is due to a defective solenoid in shifter control unit. Looking at different websites this seems to be a problem with many Corvette owners.
