What are you waiting for? the C6 Corvette (2005-2013) has been reported hundreds of times for the check air bag light being randomly on and off. The problem is the same as the Buick that was recalled. Are we waiting for a death" I hope not. I am only one that has reported this many times in the last nine years. Check my previous complaints for a complete list of all the details even a letter from GM admitting they have known about the problem for years. Is it because only 215,000 C6 Corvettes were produced" if anyone reads this and wants to talk to me, email me at lesandvita@sbcglobal.net or call me at the number below.

The air bag light is lit solid when the car is on and will not shut off. This is a common problem with early model year C6 Corvettes (2005 - 2007) and GM has not issued a recall on it. There are many members on the Corvette forum website at www.corvetteforum.com/ who have the same exact issues. GM has issued many recalls in the past month regarding lit air bag lights on other cars. Why has the Corvette been excluded? it is a big safety issue if the air bag does not deploy in an accident. I went to crane Chevrolet in NJ with the aftermarket warranty that I bought with my car for $2200 and they refused to honor it. And the dealership wants $100 just to run a scan to see what the problem is. Then it can be anywhere from a few hundred to almost a thousand dollars to fix depending on what part of the air bag system it is.

The airbag safety light continues to go off between 2000 and 2500 rpms. GM knows about the issue, but has not issued a safety recall. The fix is to reground a wire under the seat, but no diagram has been provided by GM detailing how to do this.

Check air bag light. What is taking so long. This has been an on going issue with the 2005 thru 2013 Chevrolet Corvette. We have complained to the NHTSA by the hundreds if not more. The dealers don't know how to fix it. GM engineering sent me a letter (I sent it to you) admitting they know about the problem but have no plans on a recall. Are we waiting for a death? GM recalled the Buick for the exact same problem as the Corvette. They are removing a defective connector under the drivers seat and soldering the wires. We Corvette owners came up with that plan many months ago. I am reluctant to do it myself for legal reasons. I'm a member of the Corvette forum with over 26,200 post and this issue is discussed every day. Help.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that the service active handling system warning lamp illuminated as the vehicle decelerated independently. Also, the contact mentioned that the passenger side air bag warning lamp illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician performed the repairs for NHTSA campaign number: 10V172000 (steering). The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.

This is a letter sent to me about the check air bag light and that they know about it and have no plans on doing any thing about it. I hope things have changed. Please contact me for additional information. I have numerous emails from GM on the subject. [xxx] I am sorry that it has taken me sometime to get back to you about your air bag light, I had to speak with internal resources. The air bag light concern is caused by the seat belt connector under the drivers seat coming loose. There was a change made in 2008 that moved the connector that helps some but did not completely remedy it. It can also be seen in fewer numbers in 2008 ? 2010. It was driven by the connector being placed directly under the seat cushion. When a customer uses easy exit or memory so the seat moves at each door opening it will work the connector loose over time. The fix was to attach it to the seat frame so it did not get drug across the bottom of the carpet. In 2008 they made the wire a little longer to move the connector out of the way. I am not aware of any discussion for a recall or customer satisfaction action because it was self-declaring. I am sorry this is not the resolution that you wished for on this matter. I did look into the concern and I did speak with the appropriate departments. I am sorry to be the one to bring you this news. I do thank you for being diligent in reaching out to me. I do hope you have a good holiday, [xxx] Chevrolet customer care information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I have complained to GM and NHTSA many times about this with no help from either. The air bag system on the C6 (2005 - 2012) Corvette is defective. The check air bag light goes off and on at random. We know what is causing it but GM will not fix it. I just received the letter below from GM explaining the problem and what is causing it. They admit they know there is a problem but have no plans on correcting it. Thousands of Corvette forum members complain about this. We have come up with our own temporary fix until GM redesigns the defective (bad design) connector under the seat. We zip tie it together. Many members drive with the light on all the time. GM will not tell us if the bag will deploy when the light is on. I'm sure it wont. Are we going to wait for someone to be killed to fix it? I hope not. The air bag light came on a few weeks after I bought the car and will not go off. Car had approximately 2,300 miles on it at the time. It is a solid light that is always on as long as the car is on. I took it to a dealership (crane Chevrolet) and they said they will not honor the warranty that I purchased for $2000 from the gray Chevrolet dealership in Pennsylvania (also where I bought the car). Gray told me the warranty is good at any GM dealership in the country. I am going to call another local Chevrolet dealership and see what they can do.

I have complained about this many times with no help or response for NHTSA or GM. Please read my previous request for help. Confirmation numbers 10546935,10544479,10489161, 10511438 and maybe others. It happened again today. I fixed it again with zip ties. I hope it works if I have an accident. This is a common problem with all C6 2005 thru 2013 Corvettes. I even read about a new C7 Corvette with a check air bag light. If you read my other complaints you will see I've had it in the dealers many times. They even replaced a seat belt pre-tensioner that I paid for with no luck. We know what the problem is. It's the connectors under the seat. They are defective and need to be redesigned and replaced before someone is killed because the air bag failed to deploy. You can google it and see many post on the subject. I'm a member the Corvette forum with over 25,000 post. It is a topic of discussion often. Our question that no one will answer is will the air bag deploy when the check air bag light is on? of course no one will answer that. Many owners have given up and drive around with light on.

I have complained to the NHTSA several times with no help. You are our last hope to correct this safety issue before someone is killed or seriously injured. The check air bag light on the C6 Corvette (2005 thru 2013) comes on often. I'm a member of the Corvette forum with over 25,000 post and I know that this is an issue with most if not all C6 Corvettes. I have come up with a temporary fix. I install zip ties around the connector under the seat that is for the pre-tensioner. That will take care of the problem for awhile. Last time it was only a month but other times it will last for up to a year. Check out my previous complaints and you will see that I've had it in the dealers many times for this issue. They even charged me for a pre-tensioner that was not the problem. They know like my buddies on the Corvette forum know GM needs to design and install new and improved connectors. We don't know if the air bag will deploy if the light is on. Most of my buddies use the same zip tie trick. I hope your will give this issue serious consideration before you ignore it again. I see autos recalled for many problems that may or maybe this serious and I hope the Corvette will be recalled soon.

I bought a new 2005 Corvette 4/5/2005. Since new the check air bag light goes off and on. This is a serious problem that most of the 215,000 C6 owners experience. I am a member of the Corvette forum and it is discussed often. Many dealers across the us claim they have never heard of the problem. In my case it started shortly after I purchased the C6. Every time I took it to the dealer they told me to return when the light was on. That was almost impossible because it goes off and on. Sometimes a week or more goes by and it's okay. Finally when my warranty was up but I had an extended warranty I got in with the light on and they got a code. It was the drivers seat seatbelt pre-tensioner. That didn't fix the problem and GM shut down dealers across the us and mine was one of them. The members on the Corvette forum diagnosed the problem as defective (bad design) wire connectors under the seat. Every time the memory seat moves in and out it loosens connector. I came up with the plan to zip tie the connector together. Now owner's across the us use this method. It works temporarily. Sometimes for a year or more but now that my and others Corvettes have a few miles on them the problem is getting worse. I have to replace and enlarge the zip ties more often. I did it a few weeks ago and today the check air bag light came on again. This is a serious safety issue. GM can't or won't answer the question "will the air bag work when the check air bag light is on". I'm sure they can't answer that. I have filed this complaint with the NHTSA several times with no help. What will it take to get some help with this serious problem. Will GM claim they didn't know about the problem? there is a GM custom care employee on the Corvette forum and he claims he has given this information to the engineers several times.

Several years into ownership (I purchased new) I noticed intermittent air bag warning light while driving. It would not stay persistent. This would happen infrequently. Several years later the airbag light more frequently would flash but not stay persistent. Now the light is permanently on. No accidents have triggered the air bag light. No modifications to the air bag system have been implemented. No modifications to the safety systems at all. Every day driving and use and for no apparent reason the air bag safety system has been rendered disabled by the cars systems. For the 2005-2013 Corvettes owners believe that one or several of the following may contribute to the failing air bag system: Seat pretensioner, under seat wiring harness, under seat wiring connectors, the power seat controls having an influence on the functioning of the air bag system.

Since shortly after the car was new, I have had repeated problems with the airbag malfunction indicator lighting up. I have taken the car to various authorized dealers numerous times to have the problem repaired. In all cases, the problem seems to get corrected but then reappears anywhere from several weeks to several months later. It's my understanding that when the airbag malfunction indicator is illuminated the airbag system is non-functional.

I have complained about this several times with no luck. The C6 Corvette was produced from late 2004 until early 2013 and approximately 215,000 were produced. The check air bag light has been a problem from day one. Many owners have had or have the problem. Many dealers say they don't know what to do about it. In my case I took it to the dealer numerous times and was told if the light wasn't on when I took it in they couldn't help me. Finally after my thee years warranty was up they were able to get a code. A pre-tensioner was replaced and all was well for several months. By this time members of the Corvette forum diagnosed the problem as defective connectors under the seat. As the seat moved in and out they would come loose. I came up with a plan to zip tie the connectors. Many members used my method and were happy. After several years I had to redo mine with heaver zip ties because the check air bag light came back. Many members still have the problem as do many others. Do a google search and you will see what I'm talking about. When will someone be seriously injured or killed? I see many other autos have been recalled for the same issue. Probably because they are higher production autos. I hope something can be done about this before something serious happens.

My check air bag dash board light continues to go off and on. It was taken to the dealer several times and I was told unless it was on while I was there the problem could not be diagnosed. Finally in 2008 I was able to drive to the dealer with the check air bag light on. The code said the drivers pre-tensioner needed to be replaced. That was done a few days later and the light stayed off for several months. When it returned I was told if they couldn't see the light no code was set. I spend a lot of time on the Corvette forum. (over 24,000 post) this is a very common problem with the 2005 to current Corvette. The owners have diagnosed the problem as defective connectors under the seats. The automatic seats moving causes the connectors to loosen and the light will come on. I came up with a simple solution that many of us do our selves. We zip tie the connector together. In my case it worked for several years but the light has started appearing again. This is not always the problem as forum members have had components replaced that seemed to help. It's an on going problem and one of these days a Corvette air bag will not deploy during an accident. GM doesn't seem to care.
