clearcoat failure clearcoat failure clearcoat failure clearcoat failure clearcoat failure clearcoat failure

I am a loyal GM customer...a family trait handed down from Mom & Dad. Over the past 40+ years I have owned 5 Cadillacs, 3 Tahoes and 2 Corvettes. To date, I still own one of each.

In November of 2017 I purchased a new 2018 Corvette Stingray to replace my 1987 C4 Corvette. Over the past several months I began noticing disturbing paint issues (cloudiness, fading, scratches, swirl marks), which worsened over time.

I've recentlly conferred with other Sarasota Corvette Club owners and have also had my vehicle examined by more than one professional body shop. All are in general agreement that the cause of my vehicle's paint issues are "clearcoat failure". This should not be happening to a vehicle only 5 years old. For comparison, the paint on my wife's 2013 Cadillac ATS is pristine and exhibits no such clearcoat failure issues.

I attribute the above clearcoat failure and resultant paint issues to be caused by a defective factory painting process. While it is now 2 months past my vehicle's standard 5 year GM paint warranty, nonetheless I am requesting that GM take corrective action to address this matter and repaint my vehicle at their expense.

Should GM fail to support this loyal customer, I will pursue legal action in defense of my investment in one of their flagship vehicles. If forced to go this route, this may be the last GM vehicle my wife or I ever purchase.
