Power steering will cut out on vehicle while driving over 45 miles per hour in a straight line. The vehicle will begin to drift when power steering control module essentially falls asleep. Took it to the dealership to have diagnosed.

Update from Mar 22, 2018: Dealership found that power steering control module had 39 codes stored in it. The dealership replaced negative battery terminal cable because it was causing the module to be on the fritz. Problem was fixed for two days. Took vehicle back and they found a software update was available for the car. Update was done, correcting the issue.

Cruze LT 1.4L

OK so I have 2014 a Cruze that I have had since mid December 2014 with now 22,000 miles on it. This problem that I see many Chevy Cruze owners are also having in my opinion needs to be fixed!! And at the expense of GM. My 18 year old daughter also has a 2013 Cruze and as she was driving down the freeway in rush hour traffic 2 weeks ago, she just all of a sudden lost all control in her steering while driving 65 mph! Come on GM, is someone gonna have to die first!!?!??!

My daughters and I noticed that my 2014 Chevy Cruze steering sticks at highway speeds while we were driving through the mountains in the fog and rain at night. NOT FUN AT ALL !!!!!

Really dangerous in icy conditions, steering sticks bad then jerks when comes unstuck. almost wrecked twice from this. hope the fix is permanent. scared to drive car in winter. GM get your head out...test cars first before putting them on the road.

At highway speed while going straight for at least a few seconds, the steering wheel will lock up at center position. When attempting to make minor lane corrections, the steering wheel sticks and upon more input force suddenly jerks when power assist returns. The steering overall feels sloppy. Seems like you have to adjust the wheel all the time just to stay in the correct lane position.

Cruze LTZ 1.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 14,100 miles

The steering sticks while driving at highway speed on a straight of way when making minor steering corrections to maintain position in lane. Additional pressure is needed on the steering wheel to overcome a sticking point about the center of the steering arc. Adding pressure to the wheel brings you to a point where it "gives" and could conceivably cause a problem on an icy road where minor corrections can be an issue. It is definitely annoying, to say the least, and needs a solution from the manufacturer. It just feels like something, somewhere, is too tight in the steering mechanism.
