We have had these Equinox for about 4 years it has been nothing but a money pit. First thing we bought it. It has always had a starting problem. In Aug of 2010 We had a fuel system treatment done still did not fix problem. Not sure what is a matter there but it does start at less just take a few try's. Then in Step. 2010 one of the switches inside the steering column for the windshield wiper side shorted out filling the car car full of smoke thought the car was on fire. Only about two month after owning it. Then again in Step. 2010 battery went out. Then in July of 2011 we was driving down the highway and the serpentine n belt almost went out had half the belt came apart. cut the piece off and drove car home real slow. Then in March of 2012 had the A/C Compressor and A/C condenser Went out and transfer case seal replaced due to leaking.

Now we are still dealing with the speed sensor. It was first taken into the shop on April 2013 for ABS and traction control light being on and brakes pulsating. We had left front speed sensor replaced. Then it came back 10 days later took back into shop had same side replaced again. The problem is still going on. I just heard of these problem with the pigtail wiring harness that go from the hub to the computer module. I' going to replace the harness my self to see if it fixes the problem. Part was $78 from dealer. But these car has been nothing but a biggest piece of junk. I will not by another one of these cars ever again. It pretty sad that the dealer can't step up and recall these for so many people having the same problem.

Update from Jan 16, 2015: Well I fixed the problem it was the pigtail wiring hardness that goes from the driver side speed sensor the right behind the inter fender well. Part number 22715444 for driver side. takes about 20 minutes to replace not hard at all. cost about $78 with tax

My wife cannot push the brakes hard enough to engage them, this makes the car unsafe for her to drive, until the ABS lights and Traction Control (TC) lights come on saying they are disengaged then the brakes work fine. When you initially press the brakes, you can feel them pulsating like the ABS is trying to kick in and they make some sort of noise but it takes a substantial amount of force and then you better not have to stop quickly, because you cannot depress the brake pedal. What is the solution for this problem? I read the complaints but have not seen any solution to fix the problem. Does the dealership know how to fix this? I read that most people have brought their vehicle back several times for the same problem costing thousands of dollars and still experience the same problem.

We own a 2005 Equinox what a piece of SH*T! At 50,000 miles it was one thing after another! The worst thing was the ABS system/ Traction control anti-lock brakes I can not believe this Vehicle has not had one recall on this dangerous and costly situation ! We had ALL the harnesses replaced, wheel barons etc.1,200$ later it did shut all the lights are off but I still have that annoying noises when I hit my brakes! so far nothing has worked! The air bag light came on that was another 160.00$ ! Electrical problems for the last 4 years, radiator leaks had to fix that the front passenger door when it rains floods inside ! My car now has 93,000 miles on it I am afraid to drive the piece of SH*T! It looks exactly like the one in the top right corner of this page. The cost of this car was way over the quality ! Chevy really put the screws to the consumers on this one! If anyone has any ideas on how to stop that freaking noise in the front end while braking ? please help?

Our 2005 Equinox developed this ABS braking shaking problem in September 2011. We took it to our ASE certified repair shop and they replaced the right front hub which cost us $465. The code in the system told them that was the problem, so the hub and speed sensor were replaced. A month or so after that, the problem came back. We put it off for a while and took the car back in May 2012. They replaced the hub and sensor again. The part was under warranty, so we just paid labor $174. Problem continued. We did a lot of research online and found this to be a common problem. A couple people said it was the jumper harness and was a $60 part. We asked them to change this even though, the computer system said it was fine. They put in a new harness in May 2012 and we have not had any more issues. That cost was $68. This was a real pain and we had to figure it out on our own. It should be at least a service bulletin that repair shops can look for. I would rather have spent $68 up front, instead of over $700. The even more frustrating problem is that this is a safety issue and this is our family vehicle. It was scary when you wanted to stop, but the car acted like you were on ice and took a lot longer to stop. Hope this helps someone else out. I sure would like to recoup some of the money we lost on this defective harness problem.

I have had this problem now for 3 months same thing keeps happening. Replaced wheel bearing 4 times now. The car will be fine for a couple of days and then wham, here we go again. My mechanic is getting tired of this car. We have used GM parts and off brand parts nothing seems to work once this started happening. I owned this vehicle for 5yrs plus and have had no major problems until now.

Update from Oct 20, 2011: I think we have identified the problem with the abs you need to put lithium grease on the wiring this seems to give it the connection and seal it from dust and other things.

Update from Nov 9, 2011: I found out that GM should be recalling this due to wire harness in steering neck. Hopefully they will recall these vehicles soon

Update from Nov 19, 2011: change the harness wire that connects to speed senor its called speed sensor harness runs about $70.00 for the part at GM parts service takes 20 min to install yourself. I found a cut in this wire casing that was cause by wear and tear

In July a direct down pour of rain sent me without helping it through about a foot of water. Next morning I pull out of my driveway and feel a vibration in the brake pedal. After leaving the doctors office coming to a red light hit the brakes and couldn't stop. Weird noise and vibration in the brake pedal. Nothing occurred for two days and then while driving to the bank it happened again. Low speed turn, no brakes and vibration/noise in pedal. Then the lights came on. The no traction light and ABS light. These stayed illuminated. Had my Equinox towed to Chevy dealer who informed me that my hub had gone bad (left front). So I replaced it along with tires. Three days after pick up it happened again. Took it back, the dealership could not re-create the problem at all. Said an old error code popped up, so they cleared it and sent me on my merry way. Within a week it was doing it again although now I can at least stop for the moment, but at low speeds that vibration and resistance in the pedal occurs...once I hit 30mph the ABS and no traction light illuminate and do no go off until the car is turned off....while the light is illuminated the vibration and resistance in pedal does NOT occur. I have read on several websites that this is a problem with the Equinox...and most dealers don't know how to fix it. So I am on my way to the dealership to get it looked at for the 3rd time...and when you get done reading this, read part 2 about my coolant issue...this car is a big giant turd, LEMON...pc of CRAP. Everything I have read is heart breaking because I really like it until recently and the bigger frustration is a dealer that isn't sure how to fix it.

I read some recent recall articles in regards to the ABS systems in several chevrolet models. My ABS is doing exactly what they recalls were for. The ABS gets corroded from salt and other stuff and when you are driving slow or coming to a stop the ABS is activated. They make a horrible noise when you step on the brake and you can feel the car come to a slow, but then hesitates.
