CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.

The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.

The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.

Our mechanic couldn't find the problem. Said we needed new motor. Our son took top of engine apart and found broken valve spring.

Well, it was frustrating not getting a definite fix for the "noise" that seem to be coming from the engine. I was told by the mechanic that my 02 sensors just need to be replaced, but nothing else seems to be wrong at this point.

Each time it's raining, I have a very loud noise coming from motor passenger side (intermittent depending of water accumulation on the road). The noise follow speed of motor even when transmission is on N position. Until now dealer is not able to find problem but it seem that Im not the only one with that kind of problem. I think the problem came from the strap system or the alternator!!!. Somebody have a solution?

Equinox LS 3.2 V6

  • Automatic transmission

When I went to the dealer to get my oil changed at 3200 miles my engine sounded fine.... actually very quiet. When I started the car when leaving the dealership I heard the noise. I assumed it would go away. It started getting worse with my next oil change. I asked the dealership and they said it was typical with this engine. I am not satisfied so I will be bringing it in on Thursday January 04, 2007. I will let you know what they tell me. I too get bad gas mileage in city
