Equinox Sport V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 87,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

My 2009 Chevrolet Equinox (6 cyl.) began acting up at approximately 65,000 miles. I took it to the dealership and they said it needed a timing chain. I had an extended warranty purchased at the time I bought the vehicle that covered the cost and rental car when this was done. Now the vehicle has 87,000 miles and they are telling me it needs another timing chain. I was told when the first one was replaced that this was unusual as timing chains normally are replaced at 100,000 miles or more. Now here I am needed a second one at 87,000 miles. I am beginning to wonder if my dealer is being truthful, or taking advantage of me. I have no proof they replaced it the first time.

Equinox Sport AWD 3.6L Vvt

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

I have an 09 Equinox Sport AWD with the 3.6VVT. Check engine light came on. I had it checked. It was throwing code P0008. It was repaired under warranty. Tech told me it was due to the cars oil change intervals were programmed too far apart. They said they lowered the intervals, replaced the timing chains and tensioners, and should not have anymore problems.

Less than a year later check engine light came on. I had it checked, it threw code P0008 again. Dealership would not stand by their work. I told them I should have gotten more than a year out of it. They agreed, but then turned around and said it's mileage was over 12,000 miles a year. Most people drive more than that in a year. What a joke. I got 4 years out of the original chains. Less than a year out of the replacement. What is going on?

Why is the 2009 Equinox Sport not included in the warranty extensions? What a piece of crap engine. A co-worker has a Cadillac with same problem but chain failed causing all kinds of problems because it is an interference engine. They just want to put in a new engine for $8000 dollars (her cost) My chain has not failed yet (Really Noisy) but, I don't have $8000 lying around to get a new engine destined to fail again!.

Update from Apr 12, 2015: Well we have taken it to another dealership on 3-19-2015. We are showing codes P0008, P0009, P0016, P0017, P0019, and they said it was due to the camshaft actuators being "dirty" so those where replaced. We were called and told our car is ready and all we need to do is change the oil sooner (factory oil monitor averages like 5,000 or 6,000 miles between changes and we are told to change it sooner. Then why is it set like that in the first place? This has got to be the biggest crock of crap that I have heard.) Less than a mile from the dealership check engine light came on. She turned around and took it back. Then after about a half an hour of looking at it they came out and said "we need to think about if it is worth fixing. Maybe think about a new car. They gave our money back $956.99 "Because it was not fixed." We got loaner 2015 Equinox (of course try to sell us up) We came back on the following Mon. 3-23-2015. Try to get us to buy a car but when you still owe about $15000 on a vehicle at trade in, What kind of vehicle do you think you are going to get without having a real bad payment? Were showed a couple piece of crap rusted cars. We decided no, so we ended up having to pay the $956.99. Car is still not fixed and now we are $956.99 in the hole. All of the codes show timing issue and they are duplicated on both sides of the engine. They said the timing chains and tensioners looked good and tight. Now, if it stretched wouldn't it be tight? How would it stretch if it weren't tight? This is going to be our last GM. I am going to contact every person I can. The Better Business Bureau whoever it takes. I don't understand why we paid almost $1000 no one will just fix the Damn thing instead of telling us it is something else and not fixing the problems.
