I bought this car new in 2012. 1) Immediately the heat was hard to regulate. I ignored that. Then the collision light would come on and the brake engage for a second. That scared me. 2) Then the alarm started going off and I could not get it to stop. Was told to leave a door unlocked and the alarm would not go off. Forgot the first night to leave the car unlocked. It went off at 2:30 am. Not sure how many neighbors it woke up. I also emptied the car of anything of value since I was leaving it unlocked. 3) The ringer that rings when a seat belt isn't fastened started beeping 5 times, then stopped, and continually rings 5 times. That as fixed itself. 4) The remote start quit working. 5) The indicator which shows the car is swerving toward the right shoulder came on when it wasn't. It quit showing up, but now if I deliberately swerve toward the right shoulder it doesn't come on.
Took to Chevy service. They suggested I was the problem with the alarm and the heat. When the service guy put down an bill for $269 for diagnostic, he said I would have to pay if it wasn't covered under warranty. (I later found out it was covered). I told him I was going to trade the car in, he said go do that and don't tell whoever I trade it to about any problems. Wow!!!
I contacted GM because I think these 2013 Equinox cars need to be seriously looked at. That didn't go anywhere. Bottom line for me is after reading the other complaints which were much more serious than mine, those people really need to contact GM to find out of anyone cares. After reading what has happened to others, I decided I don't want to wait and see if my car does any of that. These cars are dangerous and I believe someone is going to die. And there are probably many people who have had problems, that we don't know about. I just traded mine in and took a soaking on it.
