This was an extreme issue as I was on the interstate doing about 75 when I hit pretty significant rain. I had my wipers on intermittent until then but when I moved them to rapid, they swished maybe 3x, then stopped in the middle of my windshield! 0 visibility in an instant! Had to swerve over to the shoulder (on the fast lane side). Was stuck till rain subsided about 45 minutes later, and then could only drive until cars splashed water on windshield when I would have to pull over and manually run the wipers... Mechanic asked me if they were stuck when I tried to move them as they usually only see that type of damage with trying to remove heavy snow?!
