Yes I was driving my Chevy equinox and Griffin Georgia on around the 12th of October 2023. I was approaching a four-way stop sign that I've been through many times when I went to apply the brakes I got a brake assist failure light come on and a hard brake pedal I jammed down as hard as I could on the brake but was still unable to stop going through the four-way stop sign t-boning another vehicle. My choices were limited I could either T-Bone the vehicle or hit pedestrians on the sidewalk. I had multiple agency police departments respond State Police City police county Police. Upon completion of the state police investigation at the crash site he had that I was not at fault for the accident I showed him the brake failure assist light that was on in the truck and he measured from where I first applied race to the point of impact as well as other factors.

Upon getting a ride back to where I was staying cuz my vehicle was undriveable if not totaled I called the General Motors customer care line when I made a report and she escalated to their insurance department after almost about 6 weeks does he get a response back on the determination they said they sent an engineer out and got the little black box reading and the little box said I did not have a brake it's his failure which I know I did it was sitting right there on the display multiple people read it I was trying to do it the easy way. I ain't trying to get rich off of nothing I just want my vehicle paid them my credit holder which deserves their money to pay for the vehicle they said the little black box told them that I only hit the brake 2 seconds before approaching the four-way stop sign I go through that intersection at least five or six times a day I know the stop signs there this is just a big company taking advantage of a little guy and doesn't want to pay.

So now I'm in the process of trying to find an attorney that will help me with this case before the vehicle disappears and you can't get what you need. I do have a copy of the report not that I can read it that says the brakes didn't fail but I know they did I tried to talk to the CEO of General Motors and I was told that she does not talk to people so I guess she's just too powerful person to talk to a little guy like me though. I've talked to CEOs of many other companies when I had problems and they've even called me back to make sure the problems were taken care of so that tells me that General Motors Co is just money hungry and does not care about the little guy I've been a General Motors vehicle owner since 1987 and I will no longer have one. They definitely put a sour taste in my mouth for the way they have treated me they wouldn't give me a loaner car which cost me to lose my job my apartment I was staying which left me sleeping on other people's couches or on a park bench so if you own a 2018 Chevy equinox please make sure you get the vacuum pump checked this crucial for your safety and a safety of the people on the road thank you for your time we love to hear responses back I know I've seen a lot of similarities with other people that had issues with Equinox and the braking system failure thank you

Equinox LT 1.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,400 miles

I bought this vehicle specifically to be dinghy towed and salesman assured me it had been upgraded from 2017 to make it even easier to tow. After having RV service install the towing hardware and a braking system box (Demco Stay in Play Duo), I picked up car and after driving about a mile, noted that brakes felt odd and "service engine" light and "Service Brake Assist" warnings came on. I took the vehicle to Chevy dealer and they focused more on engine warning, and diagnostics told of lean fuel mixture which they thought may have been from damage done by RV service. Kept vehicle for 2 weeks trying everything, including what GM tech said to replace. They finally found a hairline crack in a plastic tube as part of vacuum lines. They still could not find issues with braking.

They old me to bring back to RV service because something must be wrong with brake box that ties into vacuum line. RV service used expensive scanner on vehicle and only problem was "insufficient data" from Brake Control Module. If they pulled fuse for ABS pump, brakes began to work fine. They completely tied off anything they had installed, including electrical line into car brake lights, and told us it was a vehicle problem. I tried contacting Chevy customer service, but never heard back from a Sr Service Tech!

I called dealership, but they have yet to call with answers or time to bring vehicle back to them. I searched the "www.chevroletproblems.com" website and found Tech Service Bulletins for 1) that engineering is investigating the issue of a service engine soon lamp on and a code P050F low vacuum code storing (2/20/2018); and 2) a correction to the dinghy towing procedure currently published in the vehicle Owners Manual. Engineering is working on a permanent solution to this concern (11/13/2017). Together, this information suggests that I may have a viable lawsuit under the "Intended-Use Doctrine Law" since we informed the salesman that the vehicle was being purchased specifically for dinghy towing and were assured that the 2018 Equinox was ideal and that Chevy was promoting it for this purpose. To-date, I cannot safely drive or tow this vehicle behind my motor home.
