This car was purchased brand new off the lot. There are 5 spots across the hood that are bubbling. I will be contacting the dealership to request for them to fix the issue. For a 2019 with 36k miles this shouldn’t be happening. It is an eyesore and will continue to get worse. I do not see any recalls on this model for paint.

problem #1

Feb 012022

Equinox LT 1.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,000 miles

After hitting a deer with my vehicle, it was fixed by the dealer that I had bought it from. Upon completion and at the time of pickup I opened the hood to look at the inside as this was a front end collision and felt something wierd on my finder as I grabbed the hood. Upon further inspection I notice some small bubbling on the very bottom of the front part of the hood and seeing no damage stated this looks like a defect. Not knowing but one of the paint techs who fixed my vehicle was standing close by and no sooner than I finished my sentence he stated, oh, no problem, we had been fixing several of those and can get you back in to take care of the problem.

So my service advisor says I will give you a call tomorrow to get that set up, I said great. So a day or two later I get a call about this but now with the statement that we didn't realize how many miles you have on your 2019 Equinox, over 60000 at the time as I am a traveling sales rep who puts on roughly 40,000 a year and unfortunately it falls outside of the 36,000 mile paint coverage and there is nothing we can do, even though two days earlier they stated this was no problem. They then stated I should call GM to report my issue and that many times by doing that it would most likely end with them authorizing this fix by my dealership.

Well, as you can guess that didn't happen either.

So lastly I took it up with upper management and they stated even though this is a known and documented issue my VIN is not part of the recall for many other Equinox's and there is not they can do. Finally, they offered to fix my hood at their cost which was somewhere in the $700 range which I feel is something that I should not have to pay. I truly believe there are other models and years affected with this widely know paint issues among many GM vehicles as I have been uncovering. I have a perfect newer vehicle less than 3 years old and just because I put a lot of miles on it in a year my overage beyond the 36,000 paint warranty for an issue that is so small and barely noticeable to the naked eye with the only way truly of knowing this issue is even there would be something where you would have to specifically look for this known problem. I

am ready to take this to the next level but not sure where to start. Many state start posting on every social spot possible about this issue, how I was promised a fix at no charge by the dealer and then they quickly reversed that entire statement. I love my car but there is no way this is my fault either by wear and tear or like many a rock chip in the paint which then over time results in a small bubble that can grow if not addressed at some point.
