Car stalls while driving without notice. The engine just cuts out, the power steering is lost and most times you don't notice until you are pressing the gas pedal and the car is decelerating... once I'm able to stop car safely, most times it starts back up, but it takes 3-5 times of flooring the gas and cracking the key to get it to catch, then it runs rough for a minute and seems fine. No warning lights when this happens. On a different occasion, the check engine light came on, but the car did not stall. Took it to Chevy dealer who diagnosed an ignition module ($600!). drove the car home the next day and it stalled again!!! brought it right back up to Chevy...and, after much persistence and threatening to stop payment on the $600 spent for nothing, a crankshaft sensor was installed N/C. it has been a week, with no problems yet and hoping this fixed it. However, sometimes it would be up to 3 weeks between the incidents of stalling, so on a wait and see basis right now...with fingers crossed. Very frightening to drive the car and not know if you are going to get where you are trying to go, let alone the though of this happening in the middle of an intersection or on the expressway...the car is in mint condition, garaged kept and regularly maintained by dealer only and has less than 50,000 on it. As a side note, I also have crunching noise recently presented in the steering wheel when turning or braking. After the last go round with Chevy over spending $600 on a car that still stalled, was hesitant to have more work done at the moment...

2000 Chevy Monte Carlo with steering problems. Loud "popping" or "clunking" noise when turning at slow speeds. I've found several recalls for 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo but it states my car isn't affected. Older model cars have issues with wear & tear but if there is a consistent problem with a make/model of car I would hope GM would investigate and prevent accidents. While going through the list of complaints it's very obvious it is a continuous problem and should be addressed asap. How many lives need to be lost before a total recall is issued?

I have a 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo with 56,000 miles on it. It has been nothing but trouble. Have had alot of repairs on it. Now it has a popping noise in the steering column, and loud front end noise. I was told the steering column problem had a recall on it, because one of my friends Chevy Impala had the same problem and theirs was fixed under recall. I contacted Chevrolet, they said there was no recall on my Monte Carlo. Seems if thre is a defective part on this model, GM should replace it with no charge.also, the frontend has had a very loud roar in it since we purchased it used with 12,000 miles on it. We replaced the tires, which did not help, and I was told the front hubs had defective bearings which did not have enough grease and could not be greased. My friend replaced the front hubs on their Chevy Impala with improved hubs and corrected the problem. I have had numerous electrical problems with this car, including the electric windows repaired four times, starter, altenator, turn signals and hazard flashers, paint, the car is supposed to be black, instead it's black and white polka dot. I believe this car should be declared a lemon under the lemon law. I have put way to much money into this car with just 56,000 miles on it. I would appreciate your help on my problems with this car, as I believe there should be a recall on the front hubs and the problem in the steering column. I can't afford to keep spending money on this car, I just keep throwing good money after bad.I think GM should repair these problems at no charge. Thank you very much for your time.

My husband was recently involved in an accient in his 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo due to steering problems. This resulted in a roll-over X2 and total loss. I have contacted GM to discuss the problem and they insist that it should be handled by our insurance carrier. Since the accident, I have found that GM issued a recall (03062) for power steering problems. I have done further research and found that this is not a one time incident, others have complained of very similiar problems with the same vehicle.

Leather seats: The quailty of the leather was "poor" to say the least. Dealer did replace the rear seat after repeated complaints. Speed control: At about 40,000 miles, speed control makes audible sound upon engaging or disengaging. Dealer replaced speed control module and this did not stop the problem. Interior: The coating on the dash board is peeling. Steering: Makes aut\dible snapping ni\oise when turning. Dealer cannot find problem. Transmission: Engine cuts out when under load at 1800 -2500 RPM on hills. Tachometer jumps up and down. Dealer had the car for 4 days and couldn't recreate the problem. I took them for a test drive and recreated it over and over again.
