Silverado will loss braking power at low speeds (10mph<) and condition worsen when under stop-and-go-traffic.I have determined the problem to be related to the vacuum pump - 12669488 GM original equipment vacuum pump
Replaced the brake booster twice in 24 months. Both times the situation was the same, I was driving as usual and in normal traffic when I needed to brake but my pedal was hard as a rock and I had to use both feet to brake.
The brakes keep going out like there is a vacuum problem. The pedal will go all the way down to the floor and barely can stop. Happens in reverse and forward. Nothing comes up on the dash as anything wrong. Have to pump the brakes and then it goes all the way to the floor. Happens coming up to stop signs and when backing into a parking stall.
At slow speed braking such as entering a parking spot both forward and reverse and slow speed braking as in stop and go traffic the brakes seem to stop working and the pedal gets hard to depress. Stopping occurs when great foot pressure is applied and maintained. Even then it will creep forward or backward a few inches
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the steering icon flashed and a lock indicator displayed. Also, the brake light flashed and various unknown warning indicators flickered on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the steering seized when the steering wheel was turned to the left. In addition, the brakes failed to function properly and excessive force had to be applied to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. Team lake road auto sales (13988 conneaut lake rd, conneaut lake, pa 16316, (814) 382-9336) was notified of the failures and kept the vehicle for over three weeks. A loaner vehicle was provided. The contact had not received any specific technical guidelines regarding diagnosis and repairs. The dealer released the vehicle back to the owner and the failures recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and a second loaner vehicle was provided; however, the vehicle was returned without being repaired. The dealer indicated that the vehicle was previously serviced before it was purchased per NHTSA campaign number: 17V414000 (steering). The contact informed the dealer several times that the remedy failed, but did not receive any recourse. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: PE18012 (service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes). The manufacturer had not issued any brake system recalls for this year, make, and model vehicle and the VIN was not included in the four electrical system recalls and two steering recalls. The manufacturer was notified of the multiple failures. The failure mileage was not available.

When traveling at low speeds on a downhill grade for example backing into a parking space the brakes sometimes fail by requiring extreme foot pressure to stop and requiring extra braking distance. It's happened about 20 times over the last year and it is so sporadic and unexpected that it scares you to death when it does. It also happens in stop and go traffic when the truck is slowly creeping down a light grade.
At low speeds, the breaks on my truck do not work. I took it into the dealership and they said I need a new vacuum pump. After doing some research I see that this is a common problem and there is currently an investigation into the issue. I have almost collided with objects and other cars multiple times due to this issue. It has been happenig for close to a year and a half now.
When I started the engine and backed out of my parking space, the vehicle did not stop while pressing hard on the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to the nearest dealer and the faulty brake vacuum pump was determined to be the problem.
Brakes go stiff when at slower speeds. Stopping distance becomes greater. Have to push very hard on brakes to get truck to stop. Worried accident may occur.
Takata recall while driving at low speeds and when the engine switches to V4 I loose braking power and have almost rear-ended a vehicle in front of me. Also since I live in the mountains it has also caused me to almost drive off the road down a mountain. While backing down my driveway which is also a hill I have lost braking ability which has cause me to roll down backwards almost hitting my house and almost going off of a cliff. I have called and have been to several Chevrolet dealerships spending $120 for an inspection with them telling me nothing is wrong with my brakes. There have been several complaints about this and it should be handled by a full recall due to it being a huge safety hazard that could cost me and others our lives. Please push GM to make this a national recall and make them put the safety of peoples lives ahead of making profit. Thank you for your time.
Brakes stopped working or rather were very hard to apply. This would happen in slow traffic and made it difficult to stop. Dealer says the vacuum assist went bad. I
This happens when trying to stop.brake vacuum pump leaks and fills brake booster with engine oil reducing vacuum resivore making brake pedel very hard.wil not stop! I have all parts and vacuum booster still full of engine oil.
Brake vacuum pump has deteriorated causing increased braking effort and longer stopping distances at slower speeds. Vacuum pump was replaced on January 18, 2019, but was not covered by a recall despite numerous customer complaints.
I was driving down the road and I was approaching a red light I started to push my brake pedal and I noticed it was extremely hard. I was able to get the truck to stop without crashing I pulled over on the side of the road and shut the truck off. I checked to see if I have fluid in my brakes booster and it was full. I got back in the truck and started it up and everything was fine. A few minutes later my ABS light and stable trac light came on. We got the truck to my buddy shop and he when online trying to find a replacement vacuum pump and seen all the complaints about the defective vacuum pump. I called Chevrolet service department and ask them what we could do. They told me to bring the truck in and I could pay full price to have everything fixed and they would give me a ride to pick up a rental car that I would have to purchase.
For the 3rd time is less than 3 weeks, I've had power braking completely fail at low speeds which has nearly led to running into an object directly in front of my vehicle (usually another parked vehicle, my home, or something else nearby when parking). I just noticed on several forums that the same problem has been reported, and now I'm heading to the dealership to pay between $600-1200 for repairs on my 2014 vehicle with less than 42K miles.
On multiple occasions, I'd say about 4, when reversing slowly it felt like the brakes went out. I had to push the pedal all the way down in order to get the truck to completely come to a stop.
I am having issues stopping due to a faulty brake vacuum pump system. I am having repaired by a local mechanic. Resulted is hazardous driving performance.
