CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 has an early trend of the transmission shifting hard, surging & jerking.
At the moment these trucks are still under warranty. However this transmission problem shows up right away with the average reported mileage only around 3,000 miles, so for now the 2017 Silverado earns our "Beware of the Clunker" badge.
On a road trip coming back to Florida from Ohio in the mountains of West Virginia, our transmission began to slip. We stopped at a dealership in Parkersburg and they wanted $7,000 to replace the transmission. They said they could not just give us a transmission fluid change as the vehicle may not start. Are other option was to try to make it back to Florida which we did and made it as far as South Carolina before we ended up on the side of the road with complete transmission failure and finally a check engine light. The truck would not go forward but in reverse. We had it towed and hired a transport company to bring it home. Where it sits in our driveway. Awaiting repairs. Hopefully for less than $7,000! Not covered under any warranty as the truck has 86,000 mi on it. But for a truck we purchased brand new. That's not a lot of miles for 2017.
We had to hav a new transmission installed which thankfully that problem was fixed. Extended warranty paid $2000. on it and we paid the rest $2900..I really like the truck but I don't like to be stuck on side of road.
I don't think it's fair that the transmission failed after 7 years. It's not the customer's fault for General Motors to build faulty transmissions on the 2017 Silverado. Also, we shouldn't pay a penny to have the Chevy dealership fix it. We are still driving a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe and it's a stronger vehicle. We were very loyal to Chevrolet vehicles but, after this problem with the 2017 Silverado; we won't buy a Chevy again.
This will probably be the last Chevrolet vehicle I ever purchase. This transmission failure on this 2017 Z71 Silverado was the last straw. On a less important note, I've hated the seats since day one. They are the least comfortable seats of any truck I've ever owned.

Well I expected a transmission to last at least 150000 miles. the estimate to fix it is over $6000. The truck looks like new yet. This is total BS. You pay all this money for a vehicle and then this happens. I did not complain about the little stuff.
There's a class action law suit for the 8 speed transmission, but not the 6 speed transmissions. My 6 speed transmission should not have failed at 102,383 miles on a 2017 Chevy Silverado. I had a professional transmission shop look at it and they determined that the internal parts failed and caused metal shavings to clog up the whole system causing the failure. The shop also said they are replacing on average 5 per week of the same transmission, and this is just one shop; clearly there must be many many more out there that are failing.
We need a class action suit for this transmission, or added to the 8 speed suit... Please help!
