Started my vehicle and let it warm up. No issues.. after waiting 5 min I drove away from my house and within 1 minute of driving( could of been less), all of my dash lights flashed/glitched, and my gauge needles go all the way down, I lose accuracy of speed, fuel, temps, etc. My indicator( where it shows mileage) reset to "driver 1". same thing happens everytime, and its always random, except the last 2 days. I just purchased this vehicle used, last year and a carfax was done and I just did a VIN search and nothing states this vehicle was either recalled or was the problem originally fixed when there was a recall.

Approx. 6 months ago I was driving when a vehicle entered the intersection in front of me. I stepped on the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. Luckily there was no crash but my vehicle just barely came to a stop. Towed the vehicle to a dealership and found all the brake lines were rusted out and needed to be replaced. On 3/28/14 I began noticing strong gas fumes coming from my vehicle. I again took it it in and found the fuel pump assembly, all the fuel hoses, and the straps and bolts that hold the fuel tank were rusted out. I read that NHTSA was doing a study of this issue. I understand my vehicle is 10 years old and I live in the northeast but I observed a lot of rust under my vehicle. I am a police officer and a crash reconstructionist and these rust issues could cause serious issues with vehicles resulting in crashes. I feel this issue needs to be investigated because it effects crucial systems like the brakes and fuel systems. Please feel free to contact me for further information.

A few weeks ago I was traveling down hwy 60 in southwest Missouri and the "reduced engine power" light came on. The vehicle immediately slowed to about 4-5 miles per hour and I was unable to accelerate. I crawled to the next exit where I barely made it up the incline and into a gas station. We checked the gas, oil, battery, etc. I turned off the vehicle and when I started it up again, it seemed fine. I continued home. The next day I took it to a mechanic who said that it all checked out perfectly and there was nothing wrong. This has happened 12-15 times in the last month and every time I take it to the mechanic, he tells me that the computer is not "throwing codes" and there is nothing wrong. This is not a figment of my imagination. This keeps happening. The most recent "episode" was last night. We took the boat down to the river to go gigging at night. When I went to pull the trailer up the boat ramp and park the vehicle, the "reduced engine power" light again came on and I could not pull up the hill. Every time I attempted it, the light came on and I actually went backwards towards the river!! my children were in the vehicle and I was scared we would be trapped it something further malfunctioned and we rolled back into the deep cold water!!! from what I have now researched GM is aware of this problem and I do not understand why a problem this potentially deadly has not been dealt with! I am not the first owner of this vehicle and have never had a problem like this. I am a single mother of three beautiful boys and I am scared to drive my car because of this. I cannot put them in a potentially deadly situation. So our only vehicle sits and waits in our driveway leaving me stranded a lot until GM can come up with a solution on their dime. This isn't fair that a problem is know and no one at GM will fix it. Please help fix this before someone dies!

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving approximately 50 mph during rainy weather, the vehicle accelerated abnormally and crashed into a concrete medium. The vehicle began to spin around and then reversed while the contact depressed the brake pedal the entire time. The vehicle then crashed into a second vehicle before finally crashing into a metal rail before stopping. The air bags did not deploy. The police reported to the scene and a report was filed. The driver of the vehicle sustained neck injuries and swelling to his collar bone. The passenger sustained injuries to her rib cage, neck and face. The vehicle was towed to an auto body shop but was not repaired. The contact stated that the front and rear end of the vehicle sustained moderate damage as well as the rear driver side wheel and the spare tire. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

2004 Chevy Tahoe speedometer is defective and reads inaccurately by at least 15 to 20 mph. Does not return to zero when stop, even after vehicle power is turned off. Begins working again and will soon thereafter malfunction as just described. This is inaccurately calculating mileage, and, when I spoke with service personnel at huffines Chevrolet, Q Chevrolet and classic Chevrolet (all in the dallas/fort worth area), all acknowledged this as a known problem that GM will not fix after 80K miles. Although I'm inundated with junk email from GM, they never, ever provided me with any indication that this was an issue. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) should never, never allow this to occur. Please insist that GM provide full replacement, including all parts and labor, for such a serious and known safety defect.

2004 Chevy Tahoe speedometer sticks at various speed levels and intermittently will not return to zero when the vehicle is not in motion. Speedometer can stick at excessive speeds indicated on the cluster, this had intermittently effected the cruise control operation. This was a known issue by GM, no recall was provided. My vehicle is over 80,000 (82,500) miles. Issue started with my vehicle at about 78K, but was not brought in by me to GM because there was not an announced recall. GM decided to replace the clusters for customers who had the defect occur between 70 and 80K, with a charge for the labor, not the part. Given the fact this is a safety issue (speed indication and intermittent cruise control, GM should provide full replacement, parts and labor.

I was driving down one of the busy roads in manatee county, and the back hatch glass of my 2004 Chevy Tahoe blew off of my car. It went air born and landed in the South bound lane almost on top of a car. If the car had not slammed on its brakes and swerved, it could have killed someone. I contacted the dealership, and the will not fix the problem. The hinges are still attached to my vehicle and the insurance company wants a $500 deductible. I know I have been online researching this kind of incident and I am not the only person to have this problem. I feel like it should be a recall before someone gets killed. It is not normal for a 4 year old vehicle to have its glass blow off.

  • 89,700 miles
I have a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71. I have about 89,000 miles. My speedometer started acting erratic about 3 weeks ago. Working sometimes and not sometimes. Sometimes it would look like it was sticking in the way it would rise in speed. Now it has stopped working all together. I bought this car used about 9 months ago. When I bought it, it already had over 70K miles on it. I have read on different forums and blogs that GM has sent a letter offering to fix or reimburse, but only if under 70K miles. How can GM put a cap on something like this?

After coming off cruise control at 55 mph and proceeding through town, I hit the resume button to once again increase speed from 45 mph to 55 mph but while on a road with a slight incline (less than 5% grade.) after pressing and quickly releasing the resume button as I normally do, the cruise control accelerated unintentionally and proceeded to increase speed to over 101 mph before I disengaged it. This has happened at least 3 times on this vehicle and in the past I always would disengage it immediately but seeing as how I was on an open road I figured I would see if it would disengage itself. When I felt I was going way too fast to talk a policeman out of a ticket and actually didn't feel safe any longer I disengaged the cruise control after figuring that it wasn't going to disengage itself until the speed limiter was reached. This vehicle has 54000 miles on it and the only thing that has been done on it was the dash was replaced under a recall when the speedometer went to malfunctioning. I have called GM and reported this but they have indicated they have never heard of this problem in the past. I use the cruise control in probably about 80% of my driving and this has happened on 3 occasions (all with my family in the car) and on longer trips (after driving for more than 1 hour) in excess of 75 miles.

I have a 2004 Chevy Tahoe Z71. The speedometer recently quit working. The mileage keeps accumulating but the speed does not show. I know of several other owners with the same problem. This would seem to be a huge safety concern. The Chevy dealer tells me the fix is about 200 dollars and they must keep the car for up to a week to send the module back to factory. I can assume most people are like me and cannot do without a car for a week which makes this an issue of a lot of these models on the road without any idea how fast they are going. Is there any history of this on record or recalls. Thanks randy

I have a 2004 Chevy Tahoe and in November of 2006 the speedometer started acting odd. Sometimes it would be on a speed when I was sitting still other times it would be at zero whe I was driving and now it is stuck at zero. Apparently, this is not an isolated incident for this vehicle as I have seen numerous complaints about this problem with many other GMC vehicles in this model year. I currently have my truck in a shop to get this repaired but I would hope with the number of complaints that GMC would do the right thing and initiate a recall.

2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, speedometer registered incorrect speed and slowly stopped working. I called the Chevrolet dealer, and they knew exactly what was wrong, and told me it would cost $500 to fix it. I asked them about recalls since my brother had the same vehicle and it was doing the same thing. They told me there were no recalls. After several weeks I decided to go ahead and have the repair done. I had it fixed last week and was charged $500.

- the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe with an odometer reading of 80000 miles. The contact noticed that when driving for a long period of time and coming to a complete stop then start moving again the speedometer will stay at zero. The contact stated that the only way to get the speedometer to work again was to turn the vehicle off, then let it sit for a moment and restart. This problem made the contact run out of gas several times since the gas gauge did not working properly, the oil gauge wasincorrect as well. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, and they told him that the instrument panel needed to be replaced.
