I contacted Don Mealey Chevrolet in Clairmont Fl and was informed by them they can do air bag recall. But I must sign a waver if the dash crackes in the process they are not responsible for damages and I will have to pay for dash if I want it fixed. To Whom It May Concern, I have a 2010 Tahoe LTZ which has a cracked dashboard. I have called around to get this fixed and this is very expensive at the dealership for over $1500. I had checked around and found out that this is a common issue with certain types of GM vehicles and mine is on the list. I will like for this to be replaced by GM because because this is truly a safety issue because the cracks are on the driver side near the airbags. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The dashboard has cracked and split around the passenger side airbag. The sharp edges of the plastic could be a hazard in an accident. The edges are very sharp.
In 2016 we were notified about a recall on our 2010 Chevy Tahoe. The recall was for the takata air bags. We would receive more details on how to fix this and have received nothing to date. I have gone to the dealership a couple times and there is still no fix. They don't even know when that will happen. In meantime, I am taking chances driving our vehicle should a crash happens and airbags deploy.

I purchased my 2010 in 2011 and the dash cracked in 2012. I have taken it to my local Chevy dealer twice and Chevy will still not accept responsibility for its poor quality and manufacturing. A vehicle that is only two years old and had never been involved in an accident should not have cosmetic damage. This is definitely a manufacturers problem and should be replaced by the company. My truck was worth 48,000 at the time and I should not be responsible for a repair caused by poor quality of their materials. Now my vehicle is 9 years old and the air bags deployed out of nowhere when my son was driving.... there was no wreck or impact with anything and they deployed. The quality used by Chevy is terrible and I do not plan on purchasing anything else from a company that sells over priced vehicles with cheap and faulty parts that they don't want to assume responsibility for.

Dash is completely cracked above the airbag which could be a safety hazard of flying debris if the airbag should deploy. Also the middle bench seat 60 side randomly closes which is a huge hazard as my children ride back there
The dashboard of my 2010 Tahoe has multiple cracks and is broken all over from no fault of my own. This has been an issue for many people with GM vehicles of this nature and the company won't help me repair or replace my dash. I'm scared that if I get into an accident that the airbags wont deploy or if they do, it will be with thousands of dangerous broken plastic chards! I am seeking help in this matter so that the company can understand that their product has faults and is putting consumers in risk of serious harm and injury.
Takata recall has been an ongoing, unresolvable issue since it began. The dealer has no insight as to when, if ever, it will be fixed. They say to keep watching the NHTSA/GM boards for updates. Other issue is the dashboard & its cracking. I had filed with the NHTSA in 2017 with the original crack that happened by the passenger airbag (your tracking number assigned by NHTSA for this issue is 10939141), but am adding this site now. Additionally, the dash has cracked behind the driver's "pod", connections have let loose for the middle portion of the dash allowing it to flap over bumps & the latest is the new metallic rattle that has begun somewhere behind the instrument cluster/dash area. I haven't had any cracking off of shards, but as the truck was regularly garaged, parked in a parking garage at work, & now in a carport, it's frustrating to have things occur without the blazing sun to contribute. Unlike others, I haven't had major cuts or flying pieces, just small cuts to fingers when I forgetfully am wiping down the dash. I've spoken with the dealership multiple times as things have progressed on the dash & initially they said it was unfortunate & to watch the original one (passenger airbag area), but as there are now more issues with the dash, they say to take it up with GM directly. I haven't started that process yet, but as the airbags & the dash are a never-ending issue, I will make an attempt to start.
