Print this page Notes: The 2002-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer is known for many things, but perhaps it is most famous for its faulty fuel gauge.

This gauge flip-flops more than a politician during election season. Some report that the gauge says "empty" after a fill-up, while others report the gauge says "full" when they're running on fumes. Either way, there's one thing everyone seems to agree on: the darn thing is just wrong.

Following hundreds of complaints and a few accidents allegedly caused by the malfunction, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into the issue in May 2011. Unfortunately for frustrated owners, no recall has been announced.

I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer (77,000) miles. The speedometer and tac has gone haywire. We had a very warm day and when I started the car the pointer was at 6:00 O clock when I stop it shows that the car is going 110 miles per hour. My tac is also going wacko. I have been reading that may others with Trailblazers have the same problem. I called GM and they told me they did have a recall on the instrument cluster with other vehicles but not the Chevy Trailblazer. They gave me a case number[xxx]. the approx cost for repair is $550. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Electrical system problems. The headlights and entire electrical system randomly dims and goes back to normal. This has been a problem since I've had the vehicle. It also has a chronic check engine light that will not reset and the fuel gauge has quit working.

My 2005 Chevy Trailblazer is at the dealership at this moment due to malfunction in the instrument cluster panel. First my gas gauge went out 3 months ago and now my speedometer is broken - shows I am going 60 when I am at a stop or it may go down to 30 at times. It will cost $500 for the cluster and $550 for the fuel sensor. I called GM to see if they will pay for repairs but have not heard a response yet.

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer that has a dashboard cluster failure. My speedometer and gas gauges do not work. I have no idea how fast I am going and how much gas I have left in my tank. This has been going on now for over a month. There are thousands of complaints on the internet from angry owners describing speeding tickets, running out of gas, odometer failing, dashboard lights dimming and warning lights appearing. GM is failing to take ownership of this defect and dealerships are charging $550 to $650 for repairs.

1.) no events took place dashboard cluster just failed. 2.) speedometer, oil gage, RPM, gas gauge everything went haywire, impossible to tell speed... 3.) my understanding is the dash board cluster is bad, its 450-600 dollars to repair, there has been alot of complaints but no recall yet? this should be a recall, this issue is well documented and known about... this is a safety issue, the speedometer should work, the instruments should work.

2005 Chevy Trailblazer - speedometer has stopped working. Speedometer reads 100 mph when sitting still. Very dangerous since you never know how fast you are going. I've read about this same complaint and GM should issue a recall immediately before a serious accident happens.

My 2005 Chevy Trailblazer's gauges/panel is not working at all. It reads that the truck is running hot, that I'm going way over the speed limit (when the truck is actually parked), and that I have no gas (after I fill it up). My oil gauge it also out of whack. Please help.

2005 Trailblazer alternator voltage dips alot as you drive. Radio does not work unless it is 100deg, then only one speaker works. Gas gauge reads empty after I filled up. Ignition is very hard to turn, you have to keep inserting and removing key until it frees itself.

Burning smell coming from the A/C. speed 4 and 5 both quit and now the whole thing has stopped working. This will be the third time is has been replaced and the dealer I take it to tell me this is a common problem on 2005 Chevy Trailblazers. Blower motor resistor is burnt out and the harness (which would cost about $200). They said that this was another common problem for this car model.

Speedometer on my 2005 was acting up and then stopped working all together...this is a safety issue. And it is amazing to me how many people have complained about this, and nothing is being done with this problem. My husband has a 2005 Chevy Impala and his speedometer stopped working and his gas gauge. Why is this continuing with Chevrolet...someone needs to put a stop to this nonsense. Oh...and by the way I have already had the cluster replaced just 2 years ago because of a winding noise and then a year later it acts up...hmmm...did they really replace it? take a look at this website for more complaints:

My 2005 Chevy Trailblazer ext 4X4 has a short in the electrical that runs the ac/heat fan. Chevy acknowleged there is an issue and have created a service bulletin on how to address the issue. But say it is up to the car owners to pay for the fix. This has caused my electrical wires to melt together and I can smell the smell of burning plastic almost everytime I drive the car and have on the heat for more than 10 min. I am afraid my car is going to catch on fire.

I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer ls and I have two complaints regarding part defects that should be investigated. 1. the speedometer sticks. I can be driving along and all of a sudden my speedometer is not moving at all. This is extremely dangerous being that I have no clue how fast or slow I'm going. 2. the fuel light gauge/sensor just completed stop working. The gas needle does not move at all, I have no idea how much fuel is in the tank. This is also extremely dangerous!. I have many friends that own Chevy Trailblazers who have encountered these same issues and I feel that Chevy should fix the problem. I have also read many blogs online where Trailblazer owners are complaining of the same issues so this is clearly a problem for thousands of Trailblazer owners. I hope that this complaint will help jump start an investigation of these defects, because it is a major problem! I have contacted my local Chevy dealer and they stated that it will be $1,200 to fix this issue.. this is outrages being that the problem is something that was caused by Chevy.

Fuel gauge started functioning erratically - would go from empty to full or just start going between full and empty floating around. Eventually it just stayed on empty even when I had just filled up. From the time the problem started till it stopped working was only a matter of weeks. Now my oil gauge stopped working also.
