2010 Chevy Traverse loses power while the car shakes. The short tern solution requires the car to be turned off and on but it's very dangerous. The traction control also comes on during an episode of this.

A while back on the interstate, my Traverse revved up while speeding up before it shifted. I didn't pay no mind to it. But this morning when I was on the way my way to work as I was driving up a hill, it just lost all power, it wouldn't move anymore. I got it backed into a driveway, but I could not go forward or backward. So now I have to go get it towed to figure out what is wrong.

Just over 100,000 miles the "Traction Control" and "Stabilitrak" warning lights started coming on. They go off when car is turned off..sometimes are on right away..sometimes don't come on for a few miles. Sometimes don't come on. But consistently like that. Issue is during acceleration the transmission skips multiple times. The other day it started happening a lot on the highway. Got a bit nervous.. it settled. But ended up renting a car for the weekend road trip I was going on. Apparently there is a Special Coverage #14582A from GM that covers a "Throttle Body - Reduced Power Mode" that it may fall under. Waiting to see after diagnostic this week if that's the case. Praying that it is.

My problem is pretty much the same as everyone else but it seems to occur after about an hour of driving. I get a series of 3 messages that state "service traction control", "Service Stabilitrak" , and "Engine Power Reduced" along with the Check Engine Light, and the Traction Control Indicator Light illuminated. At this point very slowly the RPMs will go up with more pedal, but the car does not actually go faster and will slowly lose speed as we encounter hills and such. Pull over, turn car off, wait 10-15 seconds and resume driving. Initially the same indicators and messages flash, but the car drives normal and after about a mile, all the indicators and messages go off like it never happened. This has occurred intermittently only a longer drives of more than 1 hour. Just wondering what I am in for at the shop because it appears totally normal after reset and I feel like I could deal with it for a while. But it does suck to have to pull over on the breakdown lane on the highway every once in a while. Torn...

I believe this problem began when the car was new and had only a few hundred miles on it. The "service tire monitoring system" alert began coming on periodically and unpredictably. All that was done was to reset it and it went away for anywhere from five minutes to several months.

As time went on, other warnings began to appear. Traction control off, service stabilitrak, park assist off, service theft deterrent system. Then the cruise control would turn off, then the air conditioning, the fuel pump and eventually, the engine itself. I have been trying to enter a major highway when this happened and all of a sudden, I have no power and can't get above 30 mph. Once I shut the vehicle off and let it sit for awhile, it will normally reboot and be ok for awhile. That time, again, may only be a few minutes or a few weeks.

I have had it into the dealership three times and it has been out of commission for long periods of time, to no avail. All they want to do is reset the computers, but that is a temporary band-aid. As of today, I am into week 3 of having a loaner car and the dealership not knowing what to do.

Here is the funny thing, my loaner car is a 2014 Chevy Impala. Twice in the past week, I tried to start the car and it would not start, and the warning "service theft deterrent system" appeared. I had to take the key out, let it sit for a few minutes and try again, at which time it started. GM has some major computer problems and they don't want to address it. I know my Traverse is a 2010, but it cost $34,000 and I expected it to last more than five years. Sadly, a large chunk of those five years have been spent fighting with this car. I am considering having them buy it out under the lemon law, which will at least give me a down payment on another vehicle. Unfortunately, after having owned 17 GM vehicles, most of them new, I will not buy another one.
