I leased my 2017 Volt in Sept 2017. The cruise control has always had an intermittent issue with not engaging, but is now more frequent. The power icon for the cruise will appear indicating power is available to the unit, but it will not work. I took the car to a dealer in and explained the issue. They returned it to me saying they cannot fix it because it was operating properly at the time and I should stop back in when it was not operating properly. I live 35 miles from the closest dealership and I cannot circle in a holding pattern until this random problem appears. Recently, I followed a suggestion from an online Volt forum.
If I put my toe under the brake pedal and pull it back toward me the cruise control will engage and operate. This is not my preferred method to operate the cruise control. Since the brake pedal is involved in disengaging the cruise I would guess the brake light switch or an adjustment is involved.
