CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Chrysler 200 carries the torch of "never buy the 1st year of a new vehicle generation" with pride.

The 2015 model year is the first year of the Chrysler 200's 2nd generation. It has been plagued by problems from the start. Transmission failure at extremely low mileage, many recalls, problems stalling while driving... the list goes on. Maybe Chrysler should have stuck with the 1st generation.

There is often a significant delay with engaging drive after reversing and coming to a full stop. There is such a delay such as the usual slight increase in acceleration expected and needed to drive forward that when drive finally kicks in it clunks and jerks until it starts moving forward. This has happened quite often, more than a dozen times. The shifting also seems jerky sometimes while in drive when shifting between the lower gears. I suspect software issues of shift points perhaps or just bad communications between the computer systems that communicate to make the shifts occur at the right times. I made an actual report to Chrysler within the last year or so at the same time I reported the issue with the speed control not shutting off (which is an active recall but they say our car doesn't have the problem and is not recallable) but not sure they made note of it in my VIN file. I am going to call them again to see what the person shows in their notes...

Vehicle speed control. I've reported this before and Chrysler insists our vehicle does not have this problem nor it is included in the recall. Problem always occurs while speed control is on and going downhill. The RPM's will increase significantly in an apparent attempt to slow down the vehicle by shifting down to way too low of a gear. Often RPM's will race near 5000+ and the scariest part is when you apply the brakes the speed control does not release. I have been the one driving when this has happened on half a dozen or more times. Recently my wife was driving alone and experienced this problem and didn't know what to do when she quickly approached a slow moving vehicle and the speed control would not release. She has bladder issues and pee'd her pants, literally. Luckily she has been in the vehicle before when this has happened and she thought quickly to move the vehicle into neutral and applied the brake which released the cruise control and allowed her to get her composure back. It was a close and scary call for her. Again, we have reported this several times and there is a recall for this exact problem and chrylser says our car does not have the problem and is not included in the recall, which is a simple software upgrade which they have and doesn't cost them much for the dealership to apply. The last time this happened was just a few weeks ago Saturday late afternoon May 18, 2019.

These past few days my car has been stalling out with no warning. All of these times I have been driving in traffic. The car stalls and message will appear to something upon put your foot on the brake and put in park. Once you do that the car will try to restart itself. My car eventually restarts but has still yet restarted on the first try. There is no check engine light on or any other warning codes( no warning codes before nor after the stalling). This is a big safety issue Chrysler needs to look into and address.

Ever since we got this car, the transmission does not shift smoothly, often very rough. We have taken it to the dealer a few times and they always tell us this is how the transmission is supposed to act. I think NHTSA needs to look further into this bc no transmission that is this new should be experiencing the rough shift, slip, etc like we have experienced.

When driving my vehicle from the stop position on the street or at a traffic light and I begin to accelerate the vehicle hesitates as the engine rpms increase. It takes about 2-5 seconds for the transmission to catch up with the desired speed. When driving over 45 - 55mph or higher on the highway there is a distinct humming sound coming from the front of the vehicle. A constant humming sound. When I decrease in speed the transmission jerks as if it doesn't want to go into its lower gears. This problem has been occurring with the vehicle since I purchased it used in August of 2017 in Hawaii.

The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. When the vehicle was started, it stalled and jerked. The contact had to allow the engine to warm up for approximately 30 minutes before it operated normally. The contact noticed that engine oil spilled into the spark plug chamber. The vehicle was taken to car town Kia usa (3120 lexington road, nicholasville, ky 40356, (859) 887-4737) where the failure was confirmed. The throttle body, oil exhaust manifold, two engine sensors, and catalytic converter were cleaned and repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to dan cummins Chevrolet Buick (1020 martin luther king jr. Boulevard, paris, ky 40361, (859) 340-1649) where engine oil was found in the spark plug chamber again. The dealer cleaned the spark plug chamber and stated that the vehicle required an oil change every 3,000 miles. The dealer further stated that if the oil change was not performed, the engine would lose oil and the oil would flood into the spark plug chamber. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 58391349. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 83,309. Consumer stated dealer had us perform 1,000 mile oil consumption test by sealing dip stick/ oil access points and with our concern/ objection due to how the car quit on the hwy previous, but we were to drive for 1,000 miles and return to see results. At 884 miles we returned and the car with no sign of leaks used over a quart of oil. Valve cover-spark plug tube seal; basket:ignition coil; gasket; cylinder headcover under 5/22/19 power train warranty. Chysler manufacturer stated they would cover cost and rental car. They stated they would cover catalystic coverter replacement because the repair was done by an uncerified mechanic where we bought the car.

About 3 months later I took it for an oil change and jerking to landers Dodge off colonel glenn road.they told me it was doing that because it was new and the mobile hadn't been broke in. Never buying a new vehicle before I believe this man.. sometimes when I first starts off it jerk, still does it today. They said my car wasn't a recall I dont9know why not it does what the other jerk all the time. Don't think this is fair paying for a defect!!!! when Chrysler is aware!!! it jerks when I first start off and pulling steep hills.first time I drove it to las vegas, Nevada

As I was driving home on the highway the check transmission light came on, I turned into a gas station and attempted to put the car in park and was unable too. A notification popped up stating the car was not in park and to apply parking brake to prevent car from rolling. I then put the car back in D but was unable to move, I then placed the car in R but also was not able to move. After attempting to put the car in park again with no success, I tried to turn the car off, this also was unsuccessful. The car would only go to acc, I was forced to leave the car in this mode until it cut off on its own. I returned to the car the next day and was able to start it, upon starting the car was in P and allowed me to go D and move the vehicle. Within 10 feet of driving on the street, the check transmission light reappeared, I then pulled into a parking space on the street and turned the vehicle off. This has been happened in this car at least 7 times and I have been back to the dealership I purchased the car from at least 5 times. Every time it was either a simple fix or they could not find anything wrong. I am now out of my warranty and may be forced to pay for a transmission to be fixed. I am risking the life of my 4 year old child every day I use this car. There is a recall for this exact issue but somehow my car was not included.

Transmission started acting up, jerking, stuck in 4th gear and also in 7th gear while driving 55 miles an hour. Numerous times, also caused me to wreck hit a trash can because it was either that it be ran over by a semi, I took the lesser of the 2 evils, my car has never had a leak of any sorts, keep it in a garage when not driving, had it towed because it wouldn't go into drive or reverse to fuqua motors dunkirk Indiana because of the transmission issues, when I got it back it seemed ok for about 7 days, then I noticed it jerking again, took it back to fuqua they worked on it again, lasted about a month noticed it jerking and getting stuck in 4th and 7th gear again causing me to almost wreck on a highway, took it back they supposedly fixed it, then after having it home for a bit I had a liquid all over my garage floor found out it was transmission fluid so I took it back again, they claimed it was fluid overage from transmission fluid so they hosed it down said they did the work for free supposedly all this work fell under power train warranty yet they wouldn't cover the cost of my rentals and I own a business that requires travel, so I spent over a thousand on rentals. Now transmission is jerking again, fluid all over my garage floor again, almost wrecked on my way home driving it, now it's been parked in my garage undrivable so I have once again rented a vehicle, needless to say the power train warranty hasn't been honored, has caused me to wreck and I have a cracked windshield and big dent on front of car, this is my business car my livelihood, my only means to get my daughter to the children's hospital in indianapolis, I've always owned Jeep, Dodge and this was my first Chrysler, I'm so disappointed that my power train warranty was never honored nor were my rentals paid during which times the dealership had my car, car is doing it again with leaks of fluid.
