CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Chrysler 200 carries the torch of "never buy the 1st year of a new vehicle generation" with pride.
The 2015 model year is the first year of the Chrysler 200's 2nd generation. It has been plagued by problems from the start. Transmission failure at extremely low mileage, many recalls, problems stalling while driving... the list goes on. Maybe Chrysler should have stuck with the 1st generation.

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact own a 2015 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the vehicle loss motive power and stalled without warning. The contact pulled over into a parking lot and restarted the vehicle however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was driven back to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 103.000.
Car shuts off while braking, and turns everything off. It also 'locks' the brake, and takes minutes to release. When this happens all lights turn off, push to start won't work, and engine will not start. The car cuts off at the most inopportune times, and makes driving extremely dangerous. It's been shutting off more frequently, and for longer moments at a time. This usually occurs on street's but has occurred in two drive-thrus. On one occasion the car shut off mid-turn. Again this makes driving incredibly dangerous, and is frustrating and inconvenient. This is my only means of transportation so driving has become a risk.
The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the brake pedal became difficult to depress as the shift to park warning light illuminated. The gear shifter dislodged in park. The contact's daughter pumped the brake pedal multiple times for the shifter to engage correctly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed however, the mechanic failed to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. While performing a VIN search, the contact was made aware of NHTSA campaign number: 15V090000 (power train) as a possible solution to the failure however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
The vehicle would cut off after starting & driving a very short distance then the check engine/flashing lightning bolt would come on. Once the car was off and then restarted, the lights would go off and it might run fine as long as you didn't accelerate too quickly & drove a good distance without having to stop and start a lot. The issue would arise more when driving short distances with constant stops & tight turns or sometimes when having to de-accelerate quickly. Once the car was off for a second then restarted, the only light that would sometimes stay on would be the check engine light. Therefore, I took the car to an O'reillys for a free test & the only codes that came back was P0302 - cylinder 2 misfire & P2172 - throttle actuator control system. The issue had gotten worse so I had a mechanic replace all 4 spark plugs with ngk iridium plugs and the 2nd cylinder ignition coil with a Bosch ignition coil. The cylinder 2 misfire code went away when restarting the vehicle but the main issue persists, the car won't stay on & the P2172 tacs code is still present. The vehicle is unsafe & unable to drive. The date I'm using for the question of when the issue happened is when I had the spark plugs and ignition coil replaced. The original issue started around the 2nd week of December somewhere between December 10th-December 14th.

The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that NHTSA campaign number: 16V529000 (power train) recall repair was performed on the vehicle however, the repair failed to correct the failure. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph on the highway or at 25 mph in local traffic, the accelerator pedal was depressed to the floorboard however, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to jacksonville Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram (11101 nursery fields drive, jacksonville, fl, 32256, (866-930-59643) but was not diagnosed. The contact was informed that the free repair was performed in 2017. The vehicle was also taken to murray Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (15160 us highway 301 S, starke, fl 32091, (904) 263-5451) to be diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to retrieve a diagnostic fault code. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
I drive to work for half hour. When driving the vehicle hard shifts between 30-35mph for no apparent reason, on the highway or in city, the whole car hard shifts and the driver and passenger can both hear and feel it. They test it and say nothing is wrong with any transmission, etc. They refuse to fix even under warranty. The car warms up for 15 minutes before driven anywhere and the temperature doesn't affect it, it divvies both summer and winter now for 3 years!! now, it pops up AWD service and they say it should have no reason to be displaying it. I'm stuck with a vehicle unsafe for my kids because no one can find an issue!
The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that the gear shifter unexpectedly shifted into neutral, the vehicle then stalled while driving 60 mph. The vehicle was restarted however, the contact stated that when the vehicle shifted into third gear, the vehicle inadvertently shifted back into neutral and stalled. The contact also stated that after setting the cruise control to a specific speed, the vehicle accelerated independently above the set speed without depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact manually turned off the cruise control. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the shifting into neutral was due to a power distribution failure and that the software needed to be reprogrammed. The dealer also informed the contact that no trouble codes were found on the cruise control and to take the vehicle to an authorized Chrysler dealer for assistance. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under NHTSA campaign number: 16V529000 (power train). The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Shortly after driving the vehicle after start up, it stalls and begins to quickly slow down. No warning lights, or check engine light. Once you get it stopped and restart it, it does the same thing about 3-7 miles down the road. Then it won't do it at all for the rest of the day. This has caused dangerous situations. No codes to go on for a possible problem. This model has han many many complaints for this same problem, and I believe recalled before for it, but a check of recalls for this VIN shows no un-repaired recalls. I do not know what to do at this point. Vehicle has just under 60,000 miles and is in very good condition. Dealer has stated that without codes showing up, and or witnessing the problem they really can't do anything about it. This has happened during busy traffic and caused cars to almost hit me from behind when mine stalls and slows down from no power. Luckily I have been in areas that have a shoulder to move onto. I honestly do not think I am being told everything about this problem from the dealership, because from researching it on line, I have found thousands of complaints this very same problem, and nobody seams to have a clear answer for it that I can find. I really need help with this. Thank you
My car shifted to neutral 6 times within a 600 mile radius on the interstate and engine would shut down. I had to coast over to the side of the interstate turn ignition completely off before I could put gear in part then sit for 15-20mins before the car would start up again. We done this 6 times before getting to our destination. Thank god it wasn't a lot of traffic. Took to three different mechanics before I found out some recalls had been issued for the transmission and wiring. My warranty expired a few months before the issues started so Chrysler want honor my recall. I'm still having problems with the sensors.
I have a 2015 Chrysler 200S which I got in January 2016. I had gone to a dealership to see about a trade in I had at the moment. When the car was taken to see value of it another car 'hit it' therefore the salesman felt it was his responsibility to help. I got a Chrysler 200S w/ no down payment or anything. Too good to be true, right? not even a year later my car wouldn't start and I went to check on the Chrysler website for any recalls. My surprise was that there was multiple recalls for this car. I called the dealership and they sent a towing truck to come and get it. 2 days later they said that something was wrong with my car and magically the recalls issue was mentioned as if I didn't know. The transmission was replaced as well as the battery after them loaning me a pacifica for the inconvenience of my car being at the shop. To my surprise the pacifica didn't even last a day because the same issue happened and it stopped working as I was in the highway. The year after same issue happened and they had to keep it for another 2 days to charge the battery. November 2019 comes and the same issue happened after being told that this wouldn't happen. The battery was replaced once again. November 2020, and the same issue happened so I went to a different dealership and I was told the battery couldn't be replaced because it was out of warranty. I've called Chrysler several times throughout the years and they say it'll be fixed but the issue keeps going. My car hasn't even reached 100K miles, it's barely going to hit 61K miles and I'm still stuck with a 11K note on the car that doesn't even work.
The vehicle check engine light permanently stays on and the vehicle will just die as you're driving it could be in the middle of an intersection it could be when you're reversing it doesn't matter I just wants to die and then not start up and it sounds like the gears are not automatically shifting. We have to have the computer reset often in order for our vehicle to drive. It's been happening for a couple years now.
On September 17th, 2020 I was driving my great niece to daycare and when I parked the car and cut it off, it would not start back up or allow me to shift at all. A new battery was purchased which did nothing, a towing service was called and it was flatbed delivered to a certified mechanic and it was determined that the computer brain is gone and the car will not cut off when you push the button to cut it off, they had to disconnect the negative battery terminal. This is a 2015 Chrysler 200 limited with only 53,000 miles and I don't know if it's the powertrain or anything because the brain is gone. They built these cars with no safety in mind. I am just thankful it didn't stop on the highway with my baby inside. And now the Chrysler dealership wants to charge thousands to repair it.
I am still having transmissions problems, transaxle, and smelling smoke smell inside cabin. I feel very unsafe in driving this car. I have taken this car more than 2 times and the recalls stated that the transmission should be replaced and I have no evidence that it has been done. Yet each time I have taken the car with the complaint that the car is shifting hard, & into neutral unexpecting it has not been repaired. Transaxle is a contributing issue to my premature tires wear of my front tires and issues of the wheel barrens and unable to get a alignment. I have been told that I need struts and wheel bearings that is hard to believe with less than 30, 000, miles. This car has 58,175 miles. I cannot or have no intention in purchase of another car. Yet I feel that what safety recalls that was required were not done why can't I see what the recalls were. Service dept. States they can't duplicate the concern yet there are thousands stating that they have the same issues. It is currently located at tomball Dodge, in tomball tx 281-351-2000
Car jerks, loses speed when taking off, may stall when when taking off this car does this when car is taking off, after sitting at light and has done so on highway causing possible fatal incidents. This is a consistant issue
When accelerating the transmission sticks in 2nd gear. You have to stop and turn the car off and start it again. This happened to me at a stop light on a highway and I almost got hit by a semi.
I had the car only 1year and half air bag light went on cause me 1800 dollars to fix, im only driving local. The other one is jerking trans twice to fix replace part cost 100.
The vehicle started slowing down while I was driving to a stop and displayed the message 'shift to P to start'. I then put the car into park and tried to start it, it took two tries to start the car after it seemed to be struggling to start before finally starting on the 3 rd time. Then in the time span of me driving the two minutes back home it started to try and stop again.
