CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 is the worst year for PT Cruiser engine complaints. Having an engine light on is annoying, but it's the complaints about the engine shutting-off while driving that really have us concerned.

I've had this car for five years. Initially, I was excited about having this vehicle. However, it has been one problem after the next. The first BIG problem was replacing the timing belt. That cost me about $1000. As time goes on, the gauges stop working. That problem was fixed. The car stalls when the AC is on while in traffic. In fact, the AC works when it wants to. The next pain in the rear end is that the brake lights nor the interior lights will come on. I then learn that it is the TIPM box or Power Distribution Center which will cost me yet another $1000.
I am VERY DISAPPOINTED with this vehicle. I really do wish that Chrysler would step up and own up to the mishaps that tend to be very costly in maintaining the PT Cruiser. It is very unfair and disheartening to pay such enormous amounts to have something fixed that technically should not be a problem.
