PT Cruiser Limited 2.4L Turbo

Dealer has done all work. Lots of different codes but I do not have the codes. I run errands usually several on any given day. After stopping at the third or fourth business, the car will not shift to Drive.

Dealer installed camshaft sensor, Jasper rebuilt transmission, told me something wasn't fully plugged in, installed a new battery. Over a month later it is still not fixed.

I am 74 years old and I don't go much. That is why the mileage is so low. I really thought the mechanics needed to go back to school. I sure would like to have a solution. I do not have the money for a another car. Last Monday (this is Wednesday and my car is back at the dealership) at one business I didn't think it was going to start. I turned the key several times before it started. It was like the battery was dead. I went to one more business and when I left there it didn't shift into Drive again.

PT Cruiser 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 235,000 miles

This car runs Great in cool weather, as soon as it gets hot the check engine light comes on with 4 codes all about communication with the T.C.M. and the car WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR. Sometimes I can use the scanner and clear the code sometimes I can't then I have to get out and pull all 5 plugs for the computer wait 30 to 60 seconds and reconnect that usually clears the code then it will shift. I have replaced the transmission module and the computer now nothing will fix it. HELP

PT Cruiser GT 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 57,166 miles

Engine light comes on and transmission won't shift ( automatic) disconnect the battery to reset computer then it works till the next time , seems worse in hot weather. Looking to replace the PCM hoping that will fix the problem. Anybody else have this problem and did you find a fix for it, as I hate buying part after part trying to solve the problem. The cost to TRY and fix the problem at the dealership , well let's say I'll have to mortgage my grand kids.

PT Cruiser 2.4L

  • Manual transmission
  • 47,000 miles

Starting having shifting problems at about 37,000 miles. Just after the warrenty expired of course. Would be ok when the months got cooler but it got progressively worse. Finally it got soo bad I could'nt get it into 1st or 2nd. Took it to the mechanic hoping I just needed to replace the transmission fluid. Did that, still same problem. He said worse case scenario it would be the clutch. Of course it was, he said the clutch should go at least 100,000 miles. The key thing he said was get rid of this car! It is a bad design. At around 80-90,000 miles the timing belt will have to be replaced and it would cost at least $1000 bucks. It's hard to get to, the motor mounts need to be replaced, etc.....DO NOT BUY A PT CRUISER! It's a neat retro design on the outside but inside is a mess!
